Looking to replace the bolt knob on a sauer 100. Internet says M6x1 but turns out that's too small. Emailed sauer several times with no response. Anyone know what I'm looking for by chance? Im told they're based on a 700 action, so that's my next best guess. Really hate playing the return game.

Did you get the old knob off? If so take it to the hardware store and find a bolt that fits.
I've been curious about this, let us know what you find.

The top of the action follows Remington 700 dimensions to take R700 scope bases, I think the similarities end there

You ever have one of those moments where you realize that you didn't even consider the easiest solution? That's right now for me. Lol. Yeah I'll run up to ace hardware and see if I can answer my own question. I'll report back and hopefully have an answer.

Came off pretty easy. Just used a crescent wrench and wrapped it with my shirt to keep from marring it up.

So I took it up to the hardware store. 5/16. I'm kinda surprised that a German firearm company would use sae. But at least now I know.

5/16, but is it 18 or 24 threads per inch?

Inspired by this I got mine out, pulled the knob and went to thread on a 5/16-24 knob I have laying around...won't thread more than a few turns...almost positive the Sauer bolt is 18 tpi

So ze germans the got the diameter, but not the pitch of common knobs in the US? Goodness.

So sauer emailed me back. Apparently it's a m8x1. Which I swear I tried and didn't work. So I'm gonna head back to the hardware store after work and just buy a couple of bolts to bring home. I know I don't have any m8x1 bolts laying around the house.

man, M8-1 is so close to 5/16-24, kinda irritating how close those dimensions are.
thanks for the update

The Sauer bolt is M8 not M6. . I have drilled and tapped two so far for M8 and they worked great. The ones that I have used are the DIP model #UNV-11080 Universal Bolt Knob. As far as I have found, no one makes a M8 thread bolt knob.

5/16-24 is very close to m8-1... Good luck! The larger bolt knob is a HUGE improvement over the regular ball style knob.

Yeah I've found out that no one makes a m8 bolt knob. Kinda par for course with sauer. Great rifle but no wonder they're not even on most people's radar. Guess I'll make some emails and see if anyone can make me a one off.
