Theres a short article in this months Backpacker magazine about the Thuraya SatSleeve that turns your Iphone into a sat phone for $599.00. Not much else about it though.

Becca , I knew you had that deal and I was looking for that . All the plans I Googled look the same and say they say they don't roll over. You probably have an older plan and they don't roll over on new plans. That or you just have a better plan than I found with a quick search.

My iridium plan that I got through satphonecity rolls over as long as I renew before my current plan expires.

My sat phone saved me $100 in gas and about 4 hours in drive time this weekend in North Idaho. We had to go into the area the long way but were able to go out the short way because we were able to call and verify that the pass had been plowed.

Those of you that have phones, typically how long will the battery last in talk time? since I'm guessing you'd keep it off any other time.

I've never timed it, but they last for long time. 7 days with a few phone calls a day.
