Salomon vs Oboz

Went to REI the other day and decided to try some lower cut hikers/ trail runner. I tried the salomon speed cross 3 non gtx and the Oboz bridger low with bdry. I'm pretty convinced on going to a low cut shoe for early season hunting as I feel they will offer the same support as a boot for me. I know these aren't an apples to apples comparison but any opinions on the two shoes??

Or any suggestions on others to try?

I don't have experience with either but the Salomon Speedcross 3's are pretty popular on here. They didn't fit my feet well so I didn't buy them personally but there are a few threads on here where a lot of people like them. Check out these thread links.

I have oboz bridger mids. I have had them for 2 years and love them. I have run them hard in CO and NM. They have held up awesome but i did manage to slice the leather almost through on a sharp rock. 6 months later it made a hole there. I plan to buy another pair before september so i can keep my feet dry.

I've had two pairs of Oboz they are hands down the best shoes I've had

The oboz look they would hold up much better than the salamons. But I've heard a lot of people rave about the speedcross 3

Yeah the Oboz will definitely hold up longer from the look and feel of them. They both offered a lot of support. the only gripe i have with the Oboz is they're waterproof which I feel would cause more problems with water coming in over the top and staying in there.

Has anyone tried the Salomon xa pros 3d's? Any of the other options from Oboz? Im open to suggestions!

I would use oboz over salomon. I like wearing the same boot for multiple seasons/years. Oboz are a much tougher boot with better arch and heel protection. I have had the same pair oboz yellowstone 2's for 5 years; and I still trust them 100%, I can't destroy them. For a higher ankle boot I wear the oboz wind river. I'd compare them to the Salomon Quest. The only downside to the wind river is a smaller toe box, so I'd order a half size up. The sawtooth is a lot like the yellowstone except is has better ventilation. XA Pros are good shoes (super light and comfortable), but I think the lacing system is cheesy. Can't go wrong with either company though.

Thanks for the help. I'm pretty decided on the Oboz at this point and I did really like their heel cup and the support they offered. And I agree on speedlacing. I've had a pair of snowboard boots with speed laces and hated them! I could never get them adjusted properly. Boa lacing is a joke too.

I tried the speedcross 3 this past year. I was surprised the uppers have held up great after crossing the west half of the Weminuche wilderness on a backpack trip and a summer of scouting. They do great with multiple stream crossings and dry out fast. I hate the factory insole as when it gets wet it will slip out of place on you if you are in any kind of steep terrain. The lace system is kind of a gimmick in my mind. The tread is almost walked out now about a year later and the uppers are still going strong. None of my other trail running shoes last more than a summer. Even though I hunt archery season, I go to lightweight boots for hunting season just to reduce the amount of water that dew covered grass is pouring on me or the occasional snow at high elevations. But for a summer scout and long distance fast pack shoe, the speedcross3 did me good once I put in a better insole. A disclaimer, I don't pay market price on this brand.

I just got a set of speedcross 3s for an endurance competition I'm training for... Ran some pretty brutal trails this morning... I'm impressed (super stable, light and traction) so far, we will see how they hold up.

I might choose a shoe with a little more beef. I use the soloman XAs and I'm on my third pair in 7 years. My wife wears oboz bridger low and switched from Solomans...the oboz Firebrand II seems like a shoe I could hunt out of. Oboz are definitely nice and beefier. The speed cross are trail runners and awesome at that. But if you wear a pack they might cause some foot fatigue as there not designed for that.
