Salewa Boots Opinions??

Hey everyone. I'm looking for some opinions, if any of you have spent some time in the Salewa Boots I'm looking in to. I know relatively little about the company, other than what I can review online, as there are no retailers anywhere near me. I am looking around for some new boots for a 7-10 day backpacking elk archery hunt this September in Colorado. (So I will have plenty of time to hike in any boots I buy and break them in. That is not a concern) We are packing all of our gear 5+ miles in, at around 10,500ft, then setting up spike camp and hunting shorter hikes most days. I am interested in the Salewa Alp Flow Mid GTX but I am not sure if this will have the ankle support and stability to hike the miles with our loaded packs. Then we will be packing out the meat on foot, which I'm really not certain these boots have the backbone to do well. Anyone have any heavy packing experience with these boots that could confirm or deny their capabilities? Or perhaps I should lean toward the Mountain Trainer mid GTX. They seem to be a little heavier / sturdier boot option from Salewa. Thanks in advance for the advice or experience notes. Happy hunting

I ran the the rapace last year, it was ok but has really narrow toe bed. Once I got some weight in the pack ate my toes pretty good.

I also had the Repace boots and they were one of the best pair of boots ive ever had. i wouldnt hesitate.

I had a pair of light weight hikers a few years back and they were great quality but too little volume in the front and too narrow for my foot. I think they're a great shoe just not for my feet.

I can only comment on the older style Salewa Mountain Trainers. The metal lace hooks bent pretty easily and once they bend they are easier to bend again. No blisters and they are light but I prefer something a little beefier for hunting. They look cool though.

I also ran the Repace last year and they worked awesome for me in Colorado 3rd season. Didn't have much time to break them in and still didn't get any blisters. Stiffer than the lighter options but not quite as stiff as the full mountaineering boots. I just got a pair of the Raven Combi for a stiffer, warmer, more mountaineering style for later season.

To help the OP and myself,

guys that answered that their Salewa's had too little volume; what boots do you prefer?

Curious how the volume compares to La
Sportiva's

I havent ran any la sportive but have lowa Tibet, Tricam and Zamberlin Voiz. All three had wider toe boxes. The lacing system in the rapace goes all the way to the toe which helps some but felt like it also acted like a magnet for stobs on dead fall.

toe box comparison on ticam II and rapace

I've worn Mtn trainer mid's for work every day for the last year and a half and feel they are the best lightweight boot for my foot. Picked up the new model a couple months ago am as just as happy.

Ive used the MTN Trainer low for 3-4 years as a daily go to type shoe that I use to go to the gym, shoot my bow, do some day hikes etc. Great all around shoe and has a medium to slightly wide forefoot. I would use the Mid version for a full on MTN boot I think.
