I will do some testing to confirm your over cleaning hypothesis, confirming that would be preferable as far as I’m concerned. The idea of leaving a rifle dirty bothers me; my other less expensive rifles don’t have similar issues with cleaning. I’d hate to leave my most beautiful rifle dirty and cause a long term problem because of lack of maintenance. I’ll heard to the range this week, although the issue is less pressing now because I got my bear two nights ago with my 308.

Following up to provide closure to those who had input. Thank you for all of your ideas and help.
Part of the issue I was having was action screws that had worked their way loose. I’m sure my cleaning regime wasn’t helpful either, I haven’t clean the barrel since I’ve read more on this sight. Rifle shoots incredibly well now. Likely overkill for the black bears and elk I chase here in Western Oregon, but it is a great looking, smooth shooting rifle.

Again, I appreciate all of the suggestions.
