A friend of mine ask me to post this since he doesn't have Internet (crazy huh?).
Anyway he killed a whitetail buck in Kansas a few days ago. He says that 3 of its hooves had issues. Cracked, split and one missing with the deer walking pretty much on exposed bone. I have read that ehd can cause hoof problems in deer that recover from it, but I have no idea if that is what it is or not.
Now the question is in the affected hooves there appeared to be infection pretty badly. So is the deer safe to eat? I know deer affected with ehd are safe to eat, I just wasn't sure about eating a animal with infected wounds. I have only seen small infections in a few animals and I have always just cut out the affected areas and never thought twice about it but 3 outta 4 legs seems weird.
He says other than that the deer appeared healthy. Thanks in advance!
