RX4 alpha accuracy?

Anyone shooting the new carbon RX4 and if so has anyone shot it past 60? I have the rx3 and thinking about upgrading the the RX4. (Maybe) I’d like to know how it’s grouping at long range with fixed heads and with field points. My rx3 shoots great at long range but it’s a booger to tune. And the RX4 seems to tune very easily. My wife has the RX4 but we haven’t aired it out yet and she isn’t quite as consistent and accurate as me at longer ranges either. Mainly curious bc the RX4 is 2” shorter ata than the rx3.

Thanks!

No experience with that bow, some bows do seem finicky to tune, but the accuracy comes from the one holding it

I understand a person may shoot a certain bow well, but no way to tell what you will do well with based on others experience.

Much of the tuning issues guys experience are due to improper fit, too much draw weight or not having the correct arrows.

Basically it boils down to the loose nut holding the bow not the ones on the bow ;)

Your last sentence is spot on!

Agree w the 'loose nut' behind the bow comment :)
I have the RX4 Ultra and shoot it well out to 100 yards. well meaning hitting a 14" or so target. I was shooting a Carbon Element which is 2" shorter and found it to be more difficult to shoot 70+. But I have seen many archers with the same CE bow shoot 100yds way better than I can with my RX4 U. So to me its all form. THe longer bow is just more forgiving.

I shoot my RX4 Turbo very well out to 70 yards. Very well for me = all my arrows in a 10" paper plate at 70 yards.

I bet if you invested in the Ultra version you would probably see accuracy improve. Really the only difference between those models is ATA and the back wall is a little firmer on the 4.

I had the RX-3 last year and now the RX-4. I also have the RX-4 Ultra.

My RX-3 was also a bear to tune and was really finicky with my grip. I agree with you that the RX-4 tunes beautifully and is much more forgiving to me. I have shot them all out to 80-90 yards and when I'm having a good day they are all very accurate. I would give a slight edge to the Ultra at longer ranges. It is so damn stable with the longer ATA! It will be my bow for out West this year. My Alpha is dedicated for Whitetail treestand hunting.

I’m right there with you. I think the ultra out west would be the ticket! I stack arrows at 60 with the rx3 but getting fixed heads to do the same with field points is a monster! Lol. Sure would be nice to have an idea what may be released in November before pulling the trigger on a 80# ultra. Personally I’d like to see the same cam selection on the ultra as the alpha and turbo. That way I can get a #2 cam and have it on the longest setting and getting all of the efficiency I can out of it.

Agree! I'm a 28" draw and if they would put the same #2 cam on the Ultra that I am shooting on the Alpha it would be sweet!! My Alpha is calculating out to 344 IBO with the #2 cam at 28"!

No issues shooting fixed heads at 80 for me. If I do my part they will hit within a couple of inches of my FP which is all I can hope for with a fixed head at that distance. I have on several occasions shot groups of 3 arrows touching at 80 and several 3" groups at 100 with my RX4 with field tips.

I plan on hunting with mechanicals though but like to tune with fixed heads to dial in my center shot. Shooting 73lb and 28" with a #2. 279fps/500gr

I came from a 2014 CST with a 33” ATA and shoot the RX4 much better.

First shot with a and FP at 60.

I shoot my RX4 better than my Ultra RX3 at 100 yards. The cam system is a definite improvement, 82lbs on the RX4 feels like 70-75ish to me. The wall is definitely better.

Off topic a little but what made your rx3 a bear to tune?

It had a lot of bottom cam lean toward the cables. I did not want to shim the bottom cam due to the split yoke system at the bottom. Hoyt does not recommend shimming the bottom if it is correct from the factory. I think I may have had a weak limb on the cable side but I didn't check the deflection numbers.. This caused it to need a centershot of about 7/8" and zero prelean in the top cam at brace. I could not get it to tune down the middle with a normal 13/16" centershot. The grip was very sensitive to thumb pressure. In order to get a perfect bareshaft at 20 yards I had to force my thumb forward to put pressure on the side of my palm. It was just a weird bow to tune for me. I think I may have gotten a lemon, but I ran with it for the season and killed a couple of deer with it. My RX-4 has been totally different and shoots beautifully.

Another issue I had with the RX-3 was a creaking/popping sound about 3/4 of the way during the draw. I disassembled and greased everything which fixed it for about 500 shots. Then it would slowly come back. I sent it back to Hoyt and they worked on it and said it was fixed. The noise came back again after 500 shots or so. I about pulled my hair out with that bow!!!

Like I said the RX-4 Alpha and Ultra have been perfect for me. Tuned up beautifully and quiet as a church mouse!

Has anyone played with the RX4 grip lateral adjustment? Would be interesting to hear the results.

Everything you’ve just described, and I mean everything, is exactly what I’ve been dealing with on my rx3. All of it. And this is why mine has been a pain to tune.
