Russel Moccasin Grand Slam Sheep Hunter

Does anybody have a pair of these, I figure my Crispis have another year on them then it will be time to get a new set of boots, I came across the Russel Moccasin stuff and it seems awesome, my buddy has an older pair of their boots and loves them but thats the only feedback I've gotten.

Are they worth the $$$?

I had a lousy experience with them that I'm happy to share to save someone else the trouble. I tried to get a pair of upland boots from them, but ended up giving up. I went to the shop in WI to get measured and to talk to them about what I wanted to order. My instinct to walk should have kicked in when it seemed like I was bothering them. The first pair (after arriving months after when they said) were made without accommodation for the fact that I wanted to wear superfeet in them (I could barely get them on with insoles). I talked to them and they had "no record in their files" of me wanting to wear superfeet in them, of course the fact that the bill indicated it and I was charged an extra charge for the work to accommodate the superfeet reminded them. Anyway, months and months beyond the estimated timeline for the second pair, I finally got them. They fit great with the superfeet, but the boots had the wrong sole. Their remedy was that they would resole the boots for me (GET THIS... Free of charge). This would include leaving some of the incorrect brown sole to resole with the black sole that I ordered. I just about crapped, given the price that a resoled 2-tone pair of boots was even in the realm of acceptable. Anyway, I'm a picky jerk and I sent them back and gave up. I'm sure many others have had great results, but I feel like I gave them plenty of chances.

Thanks for that, I just talked to my buddy, he really loves his boots but had a bad experience with a pair of shoes, uneven height heels, one tongue built wrong, replaced and ended up making one shoe much wider than the other.

I think I'll pass.

I get the impression that they would be good flat land hunting boots but not very supportive for mountain hunting. The term moccasin makes me think soft and supple. But if they cannot make them correctly to order them no way for that much money.

I also had a bad experience with them. Long story short. My brother and I went and got measured at the dsc convention together for the turkey hunter snake boots for dove season. Got them the opening week and was extremely disappointed in the fit. They were not eager to resolve the problem and never did anything about it. needless to say it was my first and last pair of Russell’s.

I started my first sheep hunt in the Yukon in a pair of well broke in High Country Hunters. 4 days in, thankfully my outfitter dropped off my Schnee Hunter pac boots I had brought along for moose hunting later in the trip...I gladly hiked many miles in the Schnees, killed my Fannin, and burned the Russel’s. There are MUCH better options for sheep hunting.
