Running Vest Recommendations

Hey guys, Any recommendations for a hydration/running vest for long runs and ultras?

I picked up a Deuter. It is comfy but one thing i don't like is the hydration bladder sleeve/pocket on the back is open at the top.

I’ve tried a lot of these out and I think the Salomon advance skin 5 is the gold standard.

My personal favorite is the Ultraspire Zygos. Its really all about what fits your body best and has the feature set you want. Salomon, Ultimate Direction, Ultraspire are all top tier just find a place to try then on and see what works best for you.

When I started going longer I went with a small backpack with hydration sleeve. Vests look kinda lame IMO.

Vest keep the weight up high and keep it from flopping around. The pockets up front give you quick access to everything you need. 95+% of the runners on the start line of a 50-100 miler will be using some sort of ultra oriented vest and for good reason.

Right on. I still wouldn't wear one. Pack with hydration is where it's at for me. I run in the mountains and don't do start lines. I like the extra small space to carry a layer or something else when warranted. I was just throwing it out there as an idea. You do you with the 95% though. I guess I'm with the other 5% that doesn't look like a British Tourist finding his way on the trail.

Do any of the vest have a pocket big enough for a small pistol like an LCP?

I posted about a running holster and many people mentioned Hill People Gear. I haven't picked up anything yet. It would be awesome to find something to hold a pistol, water bottle and snack.

Yeah, I've got the OV Fastpack 30. Way too big for my needs for this use, and not secure enough.

Ran with a Salomon Adv Skin for several years. After it wore out moved over to the Ultraspire Alpha 6.0 and like it better.

The Solomon Adv. Skin series would be large enough to hold an LCP, but the weight of it would likely cause it to bounce all over the place. I've not used a light running vest that would solve for that like a typical pack would.
