Hey all,

I was scrolling through the ol’ Facespace and post from a 7mm08 group that caught my eye.

The poster claims he couldn’t find any Tikka T3Xs in 7mm08. The LGS he was working with claimed it was due Tikka wasn’t “mass producing” rifles right now. He was told if he wanted a Tikka he could order it and might have it by mid fall.

Anyone heard this?

I’m thinking the LGS is feeding him a line of crap, unless the poster misinterpreted not producing 7mm08s as all rifles. 7mm08 is dying slowly and I could see Tikka cutting back on production.

I'll bet good money this is a mis-interpretation of what has always been the case. Part of what makes tikkas more affordable is the manufacturing efficiencies that allow them to produce fewer parts in larger production runs, without any wasted or over-production. Think one action size vs 2 or 3, so on the same machines they can do one production run for an entire year to make actions for every cartridge they offer that rifle in. That means no down-time so the machines are always running--more output with fewer machines, more flexibiliity with production time, etc. At the same time they are NOT and never have been made to order. So there is less flexibility with late orders that dont fit into their seasonal production. That gun shop goes to a trade show to see the distributor they work with in +/- March, places an order for tikkas to deliver in the summer, and then that's what the distributor orders from finland. Beyond that the distributor probably keeps some of the best-selling sku's onhand, but they are likely not keeping much stock of less-popular cartridges such as 7mm-08 (sorry 7mm-08 guys, hate to break it to you)--so in early June it'd be a shocker if any distributor had any 7mm08s in stock still--the fall production batch will arrive at some point over the summerr, and that's when it'll be possible to get one. Tikkas have always been this way, this isnt anything new. I highly doubt anything is changing. If your buddy wants a 7mm08 he'll have to find one to ship in or another retailer that happens to have one left.

🤣 now they (the facespace people) are fighting with me because I said the 7mm08 is “slowly”. I didn’t say it was dead but it’s on its way.

I still love the cartridge but the rifles and ammo selection isn’t what it would once was.

Thinking of putting together a 7mm-08 with the 7mm barrel blank and a rem700 clone I have sitting in the safe. Only discovered the cartridge a little bit ago and wondering why it's not more popular.
