Ruger American Ranch vs ?

I'm looking to add a 6.5cm(set on caliber) to have another deer gun for the kids. It will probably see some action out west eventually too. We don't currently shoot or hunt long range and I do not want to spend much more than the Ruger(~$600).

Are there any options I should consider before going with the RAR Gen II?

Must have LOP adjustment so it can go from 11yo to the wife.
Threaded barrel for suppressor and short barrel for same reason.
A folding stock would be nice, but not required.
Want to keep it light for backpacking.

Savage has various rifles that might work

I have a 6.5CM, think its a 116 lightweight in Kuiu camo that's a great little shooter. No threaded barrel though as it was before suppressors are a hot item. I've thought about getting it done though.

I don't think you're going to find anything with those specs and price.

You know, I was going to say go for a tikka or if you cant swing that, a savage so you could swap barrels out later. However I see that preferred and xcaliber both make ruger american prefits too.

If you don't mind the action on it, then go for it. Although I imagine you could find a tikka coming up here on black friday for a similar price and you could put another 125 or so with it to get it cut and threaded.

The only other option I can think of at the moment is to get a Howa 1500 barreled action and pick out a chassis or stock you like. They go on sale at Brownells fairly often.

Would a savage 16 lightweight hunter (stainless) threaded. It weighs 5.5lbs and is pretty accurate. Its sitting in my safe not being used. Daughter was using it but she now has a new browning speed spr

We have a Savage Axis .270 and it shoots good, but I'm not a fan of the safety and the magazine sometimes doesn't click all the way in. I looked them over again and the Scout seems comparable in some aspects, but not weight.

I see some Tikka's in the price range, but none with adjustable stocks and any aftermarket stocks aren't cheap.

I looked at some Howa's. The Super Lite is even better in weight, but the stock has no adjustment.
All of the aftermarket stock/chasis seem to be a good bit heavier, unless I'm overlooking some.

I’d recommend one of the Savage offerings. Plenty to choose from. If it has the plastic tang magazine, spend the 40$ to get the version with the spring loaded lock tab. Some rifles come with either or. Baffled at why savage even produces the one as an option.

I didn't know they had two versions, I'll have to check that out. The stock one is junk.
I don't like their safety either. I'm 99% certain it has been pushed to fire while hiking around.
I'll try the Ruger before another Savage.
I looked for a picture of the savage safety and the first thing that popped up was another forum with someone else having an issue.

Maybe the 110s are different but it appears similar. I own a handful of savages and never noticed an issue in that department. However my rugers have opened the bolt while walking around/deer drives. If they didn’t make that infamous bolt “zing” sound from poor machining while opening I wouldn’t have caught it as it was happening.

I don’t have it handy right now but, I’d say 5-6 pounds bare rifle sounds right.
Stainless as well. Think I gave 5-600 few years back.

Sounds right. Great lightweight rifle and if yours shoots as well as mine they are well worth their value. Last one I bought I paid $850 off gunbroker. They stopped making them.
