Hey guys, new member/ long time reader here. I was looking for some info that hopefully some of you long time reloaders could help me understand. I've purchased a couple of the Ruger American rifles over the last few years and have noticed that they all seem to have overly excessive free bore/throats. I have a gen 1 6.5 creedmoor, gen 2 7-08, and gen 2 6.5 Grendel and this seems to be the case on all of them. The crazy thing is they all shoot outstanding considering the price point of the rifles. My question is, do you guys think there is a correlation between the free bore and the accuracy of the rifles?

I have the following Americans:
5.56
7.62x39
7mm08
308.

I have noticed they all are somewhat long but not crazy, except the 5.56. I found that one is about 0.20” jump. This works out for me though because it’s my comp rifle that I single feed and seat the bullet way long for my powder capacity.

I’ve done a lot shooting with factory and reloads with all of them. The jump doesn’t seem to matter.
