Just sharing data from my project of getting a Ruger American 223 shooting 80gr eldm.
Challenges - the throat is short in the Ruger American and the AR style mag is also too short.
1. Converted to AI style for $40 from Ruger.
2. Reamed the throat with a unithroater.
3. Modified the AI style mag so it feeds long bullets well. Just added some JB weld to the front.
4. Added some JB weld to mag clip to tighten it up for feeding reliability.
80gr eldm, 28.2 gr PP2000MR
1.930-1.960 cbto tested. All less than 2.5 coal.
2950 fps from 22" bbl.
It shoots roughly 1MOA 10 shot groups so far.
