I am getting a female pudelpointer pup soon and I want to go ahead and get a kennel so I can ease her into using it. I have a small kennel for use as a puppy, then will transition to the Ruffland with a divider. I am torn between the large and intermediate. I feel like I should get the large because I will use it for home crating as well, but I have also seen lots of recommendations for intermediate. Any help is appreciated.

You want a tight fit in the truck. So, the intermediate makes sense. I used a Gunnar for the truck and an extra large wire kennel in the house that fit a comfortable dog bed. You want the dog to have more space in the house if you plan to kennel her for long periods of time. Eventually, she moved out of the wired kennel and is free in the house.

Okay thanks, do you use a larger wire kennel at home or what?

I wouldn't use a wire kennel ever. To many horror stories of dogs getting injured. My sister's dog ended up with a wire through its paw. Guys will argue those dogs had anxiety and whatever else which is true but at the end of the day get a proper crate and remove as many variables as possible that can result in injury for your dog.

Couldnt agree more. Wire crates are garbage

Very good to know. So what’d you use to crate train at home? Same type of Ruffland-style kennel in a bigger size?

I have a 68 pound lab and use the ruffland intermediate . He has plenty of room in there. It fits nice in the back seat. I won a intermediate lucky duck and thats what i use to carry up to hotel rooms when we are on the road testing and he fits fine in that. Dogs spend alot more time on trailers with alot smaller holes and are just fine as long as they can get up turn around.

Good deal. I appreciate it. I figured it would be good but people are dramatic online about how much space their dog needs in a crate. Eventually she will be free in the house but we have to establish boundaries first.

And most those people on line have a dog that will run out the front door and never come back and they are the positive only people facebook is the worst. When im not home i still crate my 6 year old. Would he be fine probably but its not worth the chance for me and he goes in his crate on his own when he wants to sleep.
