Does anyone have any experience traveling into Ruby, AK or any experience possibly renting a vehicle, ATV or getting transportation from the Ruby airport into a hunting zone?

Sounds like someone drew a moose tag that they have no idea how to hunt...

Ruby is very small. And not very friendly for folks who aint from around there.

A friend of mine had that moose tag and drove his boat up the yukon. He did mention it was tough getting fuel in the villages, due to him being white. He is a born and raised alaskan.

More about being local than being white. Natives are quick to dislike other natives from different tribes, and it is really expensive for them to bring fuel in. This is like someone not bringing enough food, than complaining that other hunters they don't know will not share because they are white.

I've had the same native person tell me I'm a horrible white guy, then turn and attack the security guard for being a dumb Eskimo.

dont count on help from the locals especially if its for hunting purposes. they will also most likely be using all their gear to do their own hunting. We go out to the villages for work all the time and it can be a struggle just to find a atv for us to use while we survey the airport or other areas in the village for their benefit.

Do i have expierence traveling to Ruby, yes. I rode a snowmobile thru there on my way to nome doing the iron dog.
the iron dog might be able to help you with the volunteers names in ruby and maybe be able to reach out to people in the village that way.
Okay awesome, thank you for the advice! I’ll go that route and see if I can get any names of volunteers. I’m trying to make it as economical as possible by chartering in to Ruby then heading out. But it sounds like it’ll be easier to find a pilot to get me in where I want to go.

There used to be a gentleman in Galena that would rent you a jetboat, but I don't think he's doing that anymore. Another possible option would be to get outfitted and transported by Shuster (might not be spelling it right), but I'm sure that will be a pretty expensive endeavor. I think you're going to be pretty hard pressed to find someone to rent you an ATV, but I could be wrong.

Your best bet is going to be FB. All those villages have their own FB pages.

I was in ruby last summer and will be back this summer. If you’re from the lower 48 and not used to how things roll up here best to not show up honestly. Unless you have a resident buddy who has village experience.

Make friendly with the village agent. Give them a shout next week in between the flights there. Don’t call them when a plane is about to land. The village agent knows a lot and is very helpful.

If you don’t know what a village agent is or does throw your tag in the trash. Or find someone local to go with.

Good luck !

Stopped at Ruby 3-4 times. They only like money from people who stop by and buy gas :)
Seriously, it is a VERY small place and I would not depend on getting anything from anyone in the area unless they are a very close friend.

I didn’t realize that asking for advice correlated to not knowing how to hunt? What an ignorant comment to make.

I was referring to the tag and/or area, not your hunting ability and experience. It is clear, based on your post, that you have no idea what is involved in trying to hunt that tag. Good luck.

Those are pretty strong words coming from someone asking for advice in your third post after joining the previous day. I submit that sentiment could have been expressed way more subtlety. Be kind.
