RS.2 vs SWFA UL

I own both but not for long enough to have answers to the important questions like tracking and zero holding. So I’ll just give my general impressions of the 2.

The maven is light weight (12.6 ounces on my scale) and optics are clear and sharp through the full power range. Its turrets can be popped up and be reset to zero if you try to use it as a dialing scope. I have the bed reticle in mine and it is heavy enough tot be good in low light but really is worthless as a holdover reticle since it’s lines are 5 and 10 moa apart ( might work well for a muzzleloader though).

my biggest issue with this scope is the weird doughut effect it has. Not sure exactly how to explain what I mean but there is a huge ring of black on the outside of the image compared to any other scope I have ever used. Where most scopes have an image that appears to go almost all the way to the edge of the tube this one does not.

I have the SWFA ul with the bdc reticle also. It is extremely light weight (9.3 ounces on my scale). Reticle is really great for general hunting as it is easily visible in low light and the stadia lines are usuable for any normal hunting cartridge. The scope is clear and sharp from 2-8 power. Above 8 I find it essentially unusable. image and reticle loose focus at the highest magnification. Eye relief is very short at the high magnification so it shouldn’t be used on even remotely heavy kicking rifles.

just my general impressions so far. Sample of 1 for each scope so take it for what it is

IF you could only run one, which one would you run? I'm going to mount it on lightweight custom 338 rcm which I want setup to shoot out to about 600 yards. I'm running a 2.5-10 NXS right now and I want something lighter.
