SWFA 10x42 Comparison Question

Jumping in on this discussion for a quick Q for @Formidilosus ...
Probably been asked a few times, but with the 6X being out of stock constantly, do you have any experience using the 10X in hunting situations? I wouldn't see a problem with it, and have used a Gen 1 successfully prior, but the question always comes to mind.

Prefer 6X yes, but with that being gone, any issues with a 10X at closer ranges?

Thanks!

No personal experience with the SWFA 10x, but several here have reported issues with internal reflections in strong low angle sunlight.

If I set one of my variable scopes at 10x and pull it up to my face, it gets a little disorienting on ~50 yard or closer targets. Doesn't take long to settle, but 6x is faster there.

I prefer 8x as the “one size fits all solution”, but I haven’t had any real issues using a 10x at close range. The most important thing to do is to practice. I do a lot of dry firing with snap caps with my rifles. I will generally pick a couple of 8-MOA aiming points and practice a deliberate shot at one and a rapid follow-up on the second. The most difficult part of late has been getting my snap caps back from my puppy.

It’s not my preference for real close shooting, but I’ve used and hunted a lot with fixed 10x’s including SWFA’s. From 40’ish yards and out- no issues at all. Inside of 40 yards, they require a bit more practice to consistently get on target on demand. No big deal, just something to be aware of.
