RokStok

Did he recommend a DIY corrective action beyond washer/shims or shaving the end off the screws? Would a layer of epoxy under the length of the bottom metal/ plastic solve the issue?
Thomas provides shims with his BMs. Shimming works and then filing down action screws when needed. If you call him and ask he’ll honestly tell you to buy a different stock or use the UM bottom metal haha.

I have multiple Rokstoks with high desert shims used for thousands of rounds and zero issues.

No because that's functionally equivalent to adding shims. At the end of the day, you still end up with a bottom metal that sits proud of the bottom of the stock.

Hopefully they fix this dimensional issue with the RokStok Lite...

Find the correct shim stack that the magazine works correctly with (which will also mean the screws are the right length), bed the bottom metal with that shim stack in place.

UM doesn't make a bottom metal for factory mags do they? The only UM mags ive seen are based around long or at least medium action cartridges and not desirable for short action cartridges.

Got my stock from the July drop delivered today. Looks good. I'll see if I can find time to put a rifle in it some time this week.

Do you happen to remember where about you were in the lineup? I know I waited for a bit before I ordered mine but it's good to hear that they're already showing up. I marked it on my calendar as a 90 day reminder from when I made the order. Still waiting on the cerakote call. How long after that did you end up with it?

Looks like I need to bust the old grinder out for my action screws though based on the last few pages.

That's how I take their listings. That it's only good with the UM mags which is why I held off. Still running the plastic one and it's working just fine but it does feel a bit cheap. I have a UM BM and mag on my 300prc build and the mag has to almost be perfectly level for it to not get jammed when inserting which isn't a feature I'm looking for. It feeds great though but the mag design seems to be very similar between the two.

The PR Precision bottom metal I got works beautifully with the wooden Rokstok I got. I have been using the factory magazines.

I’m waiting on a regular one to make sure I like it but really want a wooden stock.

I didn't care and was ready to wait until it arrived. Check your email spam folder as several have said their contact for Cerakote went there. You will not get a call unless you do not respond to your email request for several weeks.

That's really funny. I've had my gmail account for almost 15yrs. For the first time ever, I completely cleared out my spam folder just yesterday as I got a data limit warning. Oh well, I'll keep waiting. Thanks for the info man. I was expecting a phone call.

I got my email 8/26 and shipping notification 9/5.

Is it LH? I haven't gotten a call or email yet either for junior's.

FWIW I vaguely remember talking to Mountain tactical on a the phone a while back and I'm pretty sure they said their metal mags work with the stock Tikka plastic bottom (in addition to their own BM).

I'd not be confident in MT mags working reliably with any bottom metal but yes, they are designed for standard tikka BM interface.

The owner of High Desert bottom metals came over to my house to help me troubleshoot why my RokStok needed so many shims. He says that it's a Stockys issue really (similar issues in my VGs, though not as bad), in that their dimension from bottom of action to top of bottom metal is too short. That's what drives the need for so much (and variable) shimming. I even have to shim my stock plastic bottom metal on my RokStok to get proper mag engagement.
Thomas is just the best. And the crush consistency his BMs provide are great peace of mind for us.

This was my plan as well, but I called up UM to make a change to my planned Cerakote pattern. When I did so, Alex, the salesman, informed me that they just happened to have a wooden RokStok on hand that another customer had rejected. He offered it to me for a slight discount and I took it. Even though that meant I couldn’t get it exactly the way I wanted it, I could not be happier about that whole situation.

I shoot better with the RokStok - in every position - than I do with any of my traditional stocks.

If you want a wooden Rokstok, order it yesterday. I’ve already ordered a second one - a wooden RokStok lite - for my .223 trainer. My only regret is that I didn’t do so earlier.

I even called up Alpine to discuss having a third one made for a non-Tikka. My goal is to hunt with my Tikka, my Mauser .270, and my Mauser .25-06 this year. If I like the RokStok as well for actual hunting as I do for shooting, then I will put the .25-06 in one. I will probably sell off 5-6 of my current non-suppressable hunting rifles before I do that, but I really do prefer a Rokstok.

My MT magazine doesn’t work with any bottom metal.
