i tried a different set of action screws and the rear action screw is protruding. you can tell the bolt is dragging across the screw, it moves really stiff.

I think it just goes with the territory of aftermarket stocks. I've had Pure Precision and Peak 44 stocks that both required different length action screws. Both with factory tikka bottom plastic.

Stocky’s certainly can have issues, but I wouldn’t be sure it is the inlet as you would see the magazine bit locking in. We had to file two rifles action screws with fact stocks at classes this year once torqued past 40in-lbs. It’s mostly whether you get a particular bottom “metal” that gives/collapses easily.

When I got my wooden Rokstok, I ended up having UM fit it to ensure proper fitting with my aftermarket PR Precision bottom metal. I cannot tell from the pictures above whether he is using factory plastic or aftermarket bottom metal though.

I’ve had similar things happen with McMillan too. We won’t even mention how far off manners can be. To be fair the manners is my favorite stock so far but it was hardly plug and play.

Correct and this is seen in multiple Stockys inlets on both their VG and Rokstoks.

Other than my first two Rokstoks, all the others have required shimming or filing of action screws when torqued past around 50” lbs.

It’s definitely not unique to Stockys as far as carbon stocks go these days unfortunately, but seems to be somewhat common.

I also have used a metal aftermarket trigger guard which has me torquing at 65” lbs for nearly all of mine.

I believe with lower torque values and the plastic being more forgiving (and not causing any field issues in what I’ve seen ever). The best answer is use factory bottom plastic, torque to 50ish” lbs and check for clearance. File down a kiss as needed. Not “ideal” at all but at least it’s an easy solution for most.

How the tikka mag sits in a stock is very dependent on the depth of the inlet being correct. Shaving screws down may actually work in this case being very little and it being a little deep. I had issues similar to this on an AG stock but the other way. The way tikka mags are designed they like correct depth versus an aics mag where you have some feed lip wiggle room.

Ideally, imo the manners mini chassis was the best solution to a stock. In the case of something like this or what I dealt with a bottom metal with a few different length mag catches would be totally ideal…. If UM or someone makes one. That tikka mag locking in tight on the stock makes a big difference in feeding especially with the 223.

Action screws are farily cheap. Making them shorter is better than needing more in this case.

FWIW I have had 4 manners/mcmillan stocks and had zero screw length issues. AG…. Was a mess.

the front and rear action screw are too long in my stock. the front action screw wasn't allowing me to rotate the bolt enough to get safety to engage all the way when i put the action in with the safety "off". i shimmed both screws with washers to check for function. i'll be trimming screws this evening to keep my bottom metal from sitting proud and prevent any feeding issues.

Did he recommend a DIY corrective action beyond washer/shims or shaving the end off the screws? Would a layer of epoxy under the length of the bottom metal/ plastic solve the issue?
