So, your at Lowe’s to buy a hammer.
The first one hanging in the rack has surface rust but the rest of them don’t.
Do you just buy the rusted one or do you grab another one that isn’t?
They are both the same price.
Unfortunately you're not getting to choose in this situation, are you? Someone at UM is choosing. Pretty certain they cherry pick stocks that have perfect or near perfect finish for folks who ordered no paint. This is what happens when you go into business with stockys........now I have to FF through their lame ass commercials on the podcast, adg too.

You can choose to some degree. Jake has stated that the stock can be sent back and they will make it right. Im not sure if that means they will send another bare carbon or cerakote the one you send back. I think that most have waited so ling they just want to keep what they have.

Exactly. What not make them all right to begin with.

Quality control isn't up to standards to be able to produce a consistent cosmetically clean bare carbon carbon stock, or it's a byproduct of the molding process with molded textures? You'd think they would eventually get it figured out. At same time, I don't really care about imperfections, my rifles are tools, they get "character" imprinted on them usually every hunting trip. Anyone has a bare carbon Tikka or 700sa rokstock they want to return due to imperfections, I'll gladly give what you paid.

This simply reflects your low standards vs perceived need. Sorry, not trying to be harsh. But why wouldn’t you expect a refined product or a significant reduction in cost?

No offense taken. You can always get a Mtn tracker long range for $1000-$1100. Similar body lines, perfect finish, what you'd expect for price point. I have 2, and more on order. 500-600$ is bottom barrel carbon stock prices, you're gonna get bottom barrel carbon stock finish. Like I said, work with stockys, that's what happens, consistently inconsistent. Does the stock still function 100%, it sure does, it's just not perfectly finished.

I’m not that needy. Respect to the Rockstock pricepoint, but they touted this thing as a Rolls-Royce.

My advice to somebody that wanted the best looking stock would be to get a cerakoted one. My 2 cerekoted stocks look great.

Ok, moving forwards, sound advice . Are they done fulfilling orders from last year? There was an update from UM recently, but I can’t keep it all straight. There’s been so much bs.

No, they should be filled by next month. Opening orders HOPEFULLY in march/April is what was stated.

I like the high comb/heel design. But this launch has been painful.

We’ll see lighter and better soon unless there is some patent to be had or UM gets their stuff together.

Maybe. I'm happy with mine; shoots great and action fit perfect. I've had issues with mcmillan and paid a lot more for bansner, which was a great stock but took a lot of extra to finish and didn't handle recoil or spotting impacts as well.

I have put actions in 2 of mine. A Christensen Arms SA and a Christensen Arms LA and the fit is great on both of those.

Hoping when mine show up there are no fit issues. I have a tikka to move over and a 700 clone that I'm hoping doesn't require bedding.

There’s really no maybe about this launch being…well….elongated.

And there were certainly some reported fitment issues along the way. IDK if those were entirely user issues or UM.

I believe a just as good stock of lesser weight and higher quality is possible. Might cost more, but it can maybe deliver on promises. Possibly not. But probably.

Best to UM, push the envelope.

I did need to use a couple washers to shim the bottom metal on the LA.
Good call. Sounds like the tikka stocks haven't had the fitment issues of the 700s, so assuming I'm happy with it, I'll be prepared to shim or bed whatever I have to.
