Rokstok Lite

My wish was for the RS Lite to have a proper default LOP (>14”) without the need for spacers, but it sounds like that ship has already sailed.

I wonder if UM has kept metrics for spacer installs on the Rokstok. It seems like a lot of users have requested longer LOPs when purchasing, or returned their stocks to have spacer kits retroactively installed.

If a large proportion of Rokstoks are wearing stacks of spacers, wouldn’t it have been beneficial to incorporate a longer LOP as a design improvement for the new iteration?

Does anyone build stocks where the default is greater than 14"? That would make the stock completely unusable for all women and quite a few men.

From a production perspective, they should be making the closer to 13" with spacers available for those who need them.

Have you shot a Rokstok? Seems like a lot of people require/want longer length if pull than a "normal" stock. The spacers are clunky imo.

Yea its not that big a deal putting two spacers in but if they shortened the base length to 13 and you had to add 4-5 or more it would be a super janky way to get it done.

A base 12.5 youth model and base 14 regular would be nice I suppose if we were wishing for things.

Have you used a Rokstok in the field? I think you just proved @Formidilosus point.

The ergonomics of the Rokstok are different. Mine is set up with a custom 1” spacer, bringing the total LOP to 14.5”. I’m about as average in all proportions as one can be for an adult male. While useable, the default 13.5” LOP felt too short in some field positions.

In addition, 2 females have used my Rokstok with no issues. One of those individuals is 5’4”. While the 14.5” LOP was longer than optimal, she still had no issues.

Interesting take considering my 7 year old used my 14.75 LOP rokstok on a 223 to kill his deer this year.

Edited to say : I'm not saying that is the ideal LOP for a 7 year old just that he uses it fine including shooting steel to 500. I'm currently building him a rokstok I'm guessing we will end up at 13ish.

I’m surprised UM doesn’t have a better solution for their spacers. I’m just running a 3d printed one that seems a lot sleeker than what they offer. Could offer them in 1/4” increments. We basically just printed them in 1/4 in increments until I found the sweet spot at 3/4”. Probably not that easy on large scale though?

My 8 year old daughter shoots the regular lop just fine. Well hang on she doesn't shoot anything like a pro but she can hit targets and deer. The way they grow I don't plan to cut it any. That said if the stocks came with standard lop at 14.5 I wouldn't have a problem chopping an inch off of it. I understand why you can't advertise them longer as people wouldn't buy an already abnormal looking stock that's in their minds too long. It would be super easy to shorten for the people needing shorter. I would prefer to chop to fit than have all the spacers stacked up.

LOP is being overemphasized for small stature shooters.

Comb height is more important.

How far back are the small shooters holding their face that are being referenced as shooting a full-sized Rokstock?

Can they shoot prone?

Any of you guys live around Las Cruces/El Paso? I’d like to try one of these 14” plus LOP stocks against my standard 13.5” without having to mess with adding spacers at the range.

This gun is 11.75" LOP and works for 5 year olds thru really short adults (sub 5').

The youth rokstok should have an adjustable comb with 2 set screws to adjust it and the posts need to be set far back enough so you can remove the bolt from the rifle with the comb off.

I am not saying that smaller stature people cannot make do with a longer LOP. I am 5'8" and usually can shoot factory stocks just fine.
  • Except for the need for a glue on cheek riser, the plain Jane Tikka Lite stock fits me perfectly.
  • My Browning X Bolt's stock has a LOP about 1/2" longer than I really like.
With plastic spacers making it easy to give everyone a custom LOP, it is smarter to start with a base on short end of LOP rather than go with a longer version.

Why make someone shoot a stock that is too long for them or make them go through the cost of having the stock shortened (most people won't try it DIY imo) when everyone can get a LOP they like with spacers?

Same here, but I think they may have something up their sleeve for the Lite.

I didn’t care for the aesthetics & complexity of the official Stocky’s spacers…plus the time & expense to return it to UM. I’m sure the functionality is fine though.

I know this is going to sound a little gay and isn't important but I'm in good company because we all order certain colors we want for stocks bags suppressors etc.... I don't love how a stack of spacers look. This is the good ol days for gear but it didn't suck when you could order your custom/aftermarket stock in the pattern inlet fill weight lop and colors of your choice.

You made my point for me. Thank you.

...

The Sako Peak's LOP from factory is 14.25". I generally order a 13.5" LOP stock. The only time I notice the longer LOP is when working the bolt. At some point, I may have it shortened.

As mentioned, the RS is a different design than the typical sporter stock. I've been shooting RS's with the standard LOP and it's worked for me, but if the majority who've been using them with a longer LOP and find it beneficial, I tend to believe it is.

Yesterday I was hunting with a standard LOP RS in 60+ degree weather with a light jacket. Today I'll be hunting with the same stock but it will have an increased LOP via base layer, woolover, puffy, and thicker shell, starting the day at 38 degrees and dropping to the 20's with 18 mph wind. Every stock's LOP is adjustable, intended or not...

I only find orange, but here it is-

Thank you. I was searching for risers...not "cheek piece". $80 ain't cheap, but it's a hair better than the $145 Kalix Teknik option (albeit that one is adjustable). Function should determine form, not the other way around, but I personally dislike the look of the kydex ones - the bolt faces on the shooter side, specifically.
