Has anyone got wierd pressure issues adding a can to their 223? My tikka barrel is cut at 17.5”. When I originally did work up in lapua brass I was able to run up to 25.1grns Varget without flattening primers or any other signs. I added a can and had to drop down to 24.1 to get away from pressure. I shot probably 200 at this charge. Bought another can, (exactly the same one), put it on and my next batch at 24.1 is flattening primers. My gun definitely did speed up also. I dropped the charge to 23grns today and am still flattening primers. I see now that Sierra has data published with Varget listing the book max at 22.8 grains I believe. Wonder what is going on.
What primers are you using? Is there primer flow around the firing pin as well?
How are you cleaning brass?
Have you cleaned the rifle and how?
My ACE wylde barrel definitely builds pressure faster than rokslide 223 loads would suggest as well. Never shot it without a can though.. 23 grains of varget should be plenty mild though.
