Rokslide Special 223 recipe

Has anyone got wierd pressure issues adding a can to their 223? My tikka barrel is cut at 17.5”. When I originally did work up in lapua brass I was able to run up to 25.1grns Varget without flattening primers or any other signs. I added a can and had to drop down to 24.1 to get away from pressure. I shot probably 200 at this charge. Bought another can, (exactly the same one), put it on and my next batch at 24.1 is flattening primers. My gun definitely did speed up also. I dropped the charge to 23grns today and am still flattening primers. I see now that Sierra has data published with Varget listing the book max at 22.8 grains I believe. Wonder what is going on.

What primers are you using? Is there primer flow around the firing pin as well?

How are you cleaning brass?

Have you cleaned the rifle and how?

My ACE wylde barrel definitely builds pressure faster than rokslide 223 loads would suggest as well. Never shot it without a can though.. 23 grains of varget should be plenty mild though.

That’s interesting I have not had to alter any of my loads after adding a suppressor.

That’s about 500ish without and coming up on 400 with a suppressor.

I swab my chamber with acetone every 100 rounds or so.
Reloading Just use “Hornady one shot” for case lube and wiping it off with a micro fiber cloth. Trim, chamfer Load and shoot. Pretty basic.

Mix of factory and reloads for this guns life.

I’ve ran for reloads
77tmk
24gr TAC-100 rounds
24.5gr TAC-50rounds

73gr eldm
24gr TAC -50 rounds
24.5 Varget- 50rounds
75gr Eldm
25gr Varget-75 rounds

All Starline 5.56 brass. Now coming up on its 3rd firing.

Note: there are guys with far more reloading experience than me on here. I’m not advising anything just sharing my experience since adding one and loads I’ve ran.

^^^ This.

The extra pressure you're describing shouldn't happen just by adding a suppressor, but it is making me wonder if there's less room in the chamber somehow, for whatever reason...fouling from shooting other rounds with the suppressor on? Lube on the casings? Something else?

Is it possible you have a carbon ring built up from using the suppressor?

I'm running 23.5gr XBR 8028 and 77tmk out of a 16" tikka at 2716fps. I've got about 250rds through it with a can on it and it continues to shoot great.
