I am not sure if other chambers differ, but in my tikka it seemed to shoot just as good at mag length as it did seated out further. I would just load to book OAL and go, unless you are using varget and need the extra room for powder. Believe the TMK profile is designed well for jumping plenty.

Copy that. I suppose with the factory Tikka barrel that is throated fairly short, 2.26 oal is probably fine with the TMK’s.

I’m just about to start reloading 77 TMK’s for my new Tikka.

I’ve been using SAC comparators for both headspace and to find ogive length for my 6 CM.

I will for sure pick up the headspace comparator for the 223.

Question: Should I worry about CBTO on the 77 TMK’s or just load to OAL and not worry about ogive?

It’s not a terrible idea to have a cbto comparator for 22 cal on hand. There’s more uses to it than just measuring cbto of loaded rounds.

Also depends on your chamber. I’d never assume your freebore is what it is, I like to measure.

Nice tool to have for not much money. Honestly the sac cbto measurements are almost equal to my rifling in that I can guesstimate now where to put the bullet.

I did measure my chamber but it did me no good as I was restricted by the factory mag. For both tmk’s and 73 eld’s I load to ~2.26” coal with xbr and they both shoot very well with no tinkering necessary.

I don’t think 3 round groups show much of anything. There are numerous threads about it, but getting up to a 10 round group starts to be statistically relevant.

Three round groups are good for testing how a hunting situation might turn out if a follow up shot (or two) is needed. Since I cannot cool my barrel i the field, this test shows how barrel heating will affect my shots. My new Tikka has a light profile barrel so long strings of fire are out.

When I do 10 shot groups, I make sure to keep my barrel temps down by letting the barrel cool. This gives me a better idea of the accuracy of the rifle b/c I don't will never shoot 10 shots at a game animal.

I am going to try some 20 shot groups (see Hornady podcast) at some point with the 223.

My 25 round group over the course of 60-90 seconds from a factory Tikka would say otherwise.

Come on! Projectile and powder I might go flirt with some new combos over the break as I finally got some TMKs to try. Although Im happy with the 75 elds thus far

These things might get too popular and cost more than $0.70/ea if we’re not careful.. used to be sub $0.60 with better brass..

This was 20rounds with a SWFA 6x just settled on the red dot and let it fly. CFE 223 gave not very good velocity compared to TAC. Like 2650fps avg. but grouped much better than TAC.
May try TAC with 73gr.Eldm

How much TAC are you using? Thats not a whole lot of cfe

I loaded 20 at 24gr. TAC and 10 24.5gr.
24gr 2830fps avg.

24.5gr 2910fps avg

But both were 2”-2.5” group size

Yes I agree that was not a lot of CFE, probably a moot point on my part to bring up the lack of velocity.

This was all in virgin 5.56 Starline brass and CCI 450, COL 2.330” waters mag
