So, in this contest, can we pause as long as the knees don't touch or do we have to keep going with no pauses? And is there a time limit to duration of pause?

I bet a skinny guy is gonna win this contest.

Just did 65 in a practice set, but there's still time to improve.

Ya, with my 81.5" armspan each of my pushups is like four of some you guy's pushups. Kind of like watching the 5 foot 90lb guy in gym class pump out 50 four-inch pullups in 30 seconds. I'm out.:)

I second that! Tall guys with long arms!

Are there many over 50 yet? I may give it a shot for grins at nearly 59, hope 30 is good! (grin) Sounds like a cool contest!

Anybody thought about splitting the age groups into weight or height (i.e. reach) classes?

Anybody wanna give up their training tips for this? I plan on doing push-ups twice per week. One day isometrics (max reps 10) and the other day sets of max reps. Max rep days I will wait until completely rested before doing another set (5-8 min. approx.) This will keep size from building up while still increasing strength. And also on both these days I will be doing enough leg work to get an adequate amount of testosterone flow into the blood stream. At the gym, minimum 20 reps of whatever weight I'm benching.

Managed 70 reps on second set today. Wasn't paying attention to if my elbows were locking out though.

I thought I had a long wingspan at 76", dude you are a Boeing jet compared to me. :)

I am still going to give them a run for their money though.

Sounds like a pretty good idea.

On a side note, I was reading recently that for a US Marine to pass his chin up test at recruit training, males had to only complete 3 full chin ups, I near fell over when I read that.

Funny stuff Jäger, but I will say the chin-up bar is one piece of equipment I see in the gym that is often vacant. Good luck to the fellow over 50 crowd in this competition.

I'm in, if for nothing else, just to motivate me to work my upper body. My goal is to get to 100 but that may be a long shot considering my initial run resulted in 32 quality pushups before I started wobbling and called it quits.
