Road trip!!!

Planning on taking a trip to San Diego from Northern Idaho with my 12 and 14 year old boys. Other then stopping at Sun Valley to mountain bike, the trip is wide open. We will have 4 days after we leave Sun Valley. What are some cool sights or things to do along the way?!?!? Looking to make some good memories with my boys!!!!

Day fishing trip, Mission Beach, Zoo???

some random suggestions for you in no particular order - La Jolla just north of SD is pretty nice - good beaches. SD wild animal park isnt terrible, but depends on how the kids feel about that. Like buckshotaz said, you could also charter a boat to do some deep sea fishing - lots of tuna and yellowtail biting off the coast of SD. The gaslamp quarter downtown SD has a lot going on. Catalina is the island off Los Angeles/Orange County - easy 1 hour ferry ride and looks like a different world - good snorkeling and scuba diving. Pacific beach for surfing.

If you head west on I80 and go through Reno you could hit Tahoe - some cool mountain biking there. From Tahoe you can drop down to San Francisco then take the coast all the way down. Traffic will suck but some cool sights and better weather than the Nevada desert this time of year...

Seeing the redwoods, sequoia and Yosemite would be at the top of my list if it were my 1st time. Lots to do down in Ventura county area when you get down there. Malibu and big sur both are worth visiting too.

So you're not taking the interstates?
...hit up City of Rocks, Toiyabe Forest, and Great Basin National Park (the cave tours are awesome!)...it's all stunning...

They have a good aquarium! My boys enjoyed it.

Take I-40 -Grand Canyon ,Yosemite,Sequoia Nat. Forest then highway 1 down the coast,
Muir Woods all the way down to Golden Gate and hit San. Fran Piers for a life
remembering experience.Eat good!
