I am a new guy here, but Simmons Sporting Goods has a Zeiss Terra 3-9x40 for $239 and free shipping on orders over $99

Zeiss Terra 3-9x42 - Plex Rifle Scope 5227019920 - Simmons Sporting Goods

all things considered, there is good reason why these are priced so low

You chose a great rifle! I think that most guys that have the tikka run talleys or DNZ's. I actually run stock tikka rings and have had no issues whatsoever. I kinda like them.

Randy

Talley and DNZ are both good quality and the Tikka Factory that have not held strong favor are well engineered and totally functional - The reason there have been failures lies not in the rings quality but in the fashion that they are installed - It has been a big enough issue that the new model T3x rifles no longer come with those rings which is unfortunate but so goes the "feedback" part of marketing - You'll not find a recoil lug on either previously mentioned aftermarket mounts yet the Tikka bridge comes with the recess milled in it, interesting to ponder that one ..... a 3rd choice is the Tikka Performance picatinney rail from Mountain Tactical in MT, THEN you may choose whatever rings for it you wish from Leupold "Rifleman" to Seekins and the like ..... I've seldom heard of 6/48 mount screws shearing but I know that "if it can happen it WILL happen" so I've chosen the Mountain Tactical alloy rail and on everything save the "big kickers" I just use Leupold Rifleman rings, inexpensive and lightweight - I dare say I shoot as much as any and more than most, NEVER NEVER have had so much as a hiccup with those rings, ya'll spend YOUR money as you wish

Just wanted to thank everyone for the advice. I ended up with the VX-3i and talley mounts. Really like the set-up.

+1 on the Leupold VX2 2-7x33. Great glass for the money. I have this scope on 2 different rifles.

There is/was a Leupold 3-9 CDS in the classified. You can easily run 2 differently loads and swap the turrets. I'm running the exact scope on my 30-06 and have no issues however I haven't had a chance to stretch her legs out to 300+ with the new dial that came in last week.

180's will kill white tails just as dead as 150's will - build a load with 180 or 178 grain, sight it in dead on for 300 yards and don't mess with it just shoot it - 2.5 x 8 or 3.5 x 10 will give you good FOV on low for timber/woods and 8-10x is plenty for anything a person "should" be shooting game at - K I S S
