It’s whoever made the angry post about Form being a mod for sure lol. God forbid he be able to move/lock these threads so it doesn’t get piled on the mods.

I just love all the crying on the fire and the hide 😢

CR:

I perused a thread on dropping scopes started by J Burns on the fire the other day. Didn't see him offer up any of his Leupolds.

Dropping scopes has certainly raised some brows in the optics business. I like it; more power to the testing, I say.

Left out overnight in low single digits with snow falling. 9°F when I started this morning.

The Swarovski X5 and Minox ZP5 are on rifles and they were in the truck. Still 9° on them.

From the top of the image down, checking for power ring and parallax smoothness, turret feel, and anything else effected by the cold.

1). Burris Veracity 2-10x42mm: No effect

2). Sightron STAC 3-16x42mm: Stiffer mag ring

3). Sightron Siii 6-24x50mm: Stiffer mag ring

3). Trijicon 2.5-15x42mm Credo HX: Parallax a bit stiffer

5). Trijicon 3-18x44mm Tenmile: No effect

6). SWFA SS 3-15x42mm FFP: Maybe very slightly mushier elevation turret

7). Leupold MK5 3.6-18x44mm: No effect

8). Vortex Razor HD LHT 4.5-22x50mm: Extremly tight mag ring. Almost not able to turn. Bad enough that if using hunting I would set it at 7-8x and leave it- no way to quickly adjust it on an animal. Elevation turret extremely soft and mushy.

9). Vortex Viper PST Gen 1 2.5-10x32mm: Mag ring very stiff- almost unusable. Stiff parallax.

10). Bushnell Elite Tactical 3-12x44mm LRTS: No effect.

11). NF 4-16x42mm ATACR: No effect.

12). NF 4-32x50mm NX8: No effect.

13). NF 3.5-15x50mm F1: No effect.

14). Meopta Optika 6 3-18x50mm: No effect.

15). Swarovski X5 5-25x56mm: Stiff power ring.

16). Minox ZP5 5-25x56mm: No effect.
Since the X5 is mount it up already, does that mean we will soon see some test results from it?

Think it will survive the drop portion? I don't think it will hold up to the 36" drops myself.

It’s already been dropped. Does not like left side impacts.

The three left of center dot, are all left side impacts-

However there is slight contact between the rubber on the power ring and the rail- turns easily, but there is a slight mark. Because of that, it needs to be retested with high rings. I don’t think it will change anything, but fair’s fair.

An update on the scopes left outside. Was -10°’ish last night. Right at 0° this morning when checked. All were the same as they were at 10° except for the-

2). Sightron STAC 3-16x42mm: Mag ring now has a “zip” sound to it when turned quickly.

8). Vortex Razor HD LHT 4.5-22x50mm: Mag ring is now very easy to turn, strikingly so. Elevation turret is mush.

9). Vortex Viper PST Gen 1 2.5-10x32mm: Mag ring now has different feel in the zoom range. Part is only slightly stiff, but a portion is nearly locked up.

Forgive me if I've missed it mentioned in here, but the night force 4-16x42mm atacr seems to check a lot of the boxes for a long range hunting scope with locking elevation, capped windage, 4-16 zoom range.

What keeps this from being the go to? Price? Weight? Reticle?

Surely it passed your torture test?

The things you mentioned, in addition to it being discontinued.

It’s discontinued? It’s still on the website?

I hunted with the xt ret this year and was quite happy with it (on NX8’s, though trying to figure out a way to justify a ATACR, thanks Form)
