Hey all, I am looking for some scope help. I buying a 7prc. Leaning towards a tikka roughtek or a begara HMR. Im am having issues picking an optic. I want to stretch out my range to 700 yards for hunting. I want a first focal plane optic with a good warranty. Trying to keep it under 1,200.00. I have obviously looked online but I wanted some opinions from guys who have used them in the field without any money influencing their opinions. Thanks guys.

If you can wait a bit, the new S2H scope from ZeroTech looks to be the exact scope you're looking for. It's not available to buy today, but you can get it pre-ordered on the Shoot2Hunt website. I have one on order

If you need something today, a SWFA 3-9 is a very good option. FFP, as robust as anything, and surprisingly good optical quality for the $600 price. I love mine and it is way better than the price would indicate. No issues shooting to 800+ with it.

I like my LRHS, but the donut reticle is one that quite a few people don't like. Mine is the 3-12 which are really hard to find.you can find the 3-12 or the more common 4.5-18 used for under a grand fairly regularly.

The Maven RS1.2 is at the very top of your price range but worth looking at if you need something right now and really feel the desire for more magnification.

A 7PRC recoils a lot (relative to what most of us hunt with at those ranges) and to stay in the scope, even with a brake (eww) or suppressor (yay), you'll likely need to be in the 6-9x magnification range at 700 if you want to spot your own impacts. A scope that goes to 15x or 18x won't be much help in field shooting on that rifle.

I’m not In a hurry so I’ll have to check that out! I am suppressing!

Everything Eric said was spot on. Only thing I would add would be to look at the SWFA 3-15 as well if you're looking for more magnification over the 3-9. Good luck

Theres a Trijicon Tenmile 3-18x44 FFP MRAD in the classifieds for $1100. I have one in MOA and love it. I guess the only downside is their warranty is for original owner only.

Reading this thread makes me think that I am in need of a Rokslide 12 step program…
The only scope listed on this thread that I don’t own or have on order is the LRHS 🤨🤔🤣
So, at least in my opinion, for the OP this is a pretty comprehensive list of excellent scope options!!

You could always sell one of those scopes to help distance yourself from your addiction;)

yeah im a big fan of having a good warranty
I was too when I used Leupold and vortex that need the warranty 😂

In reality, the LRHS is a great scope but warranty is not good. The original is no longer in production and the LRHS2 is a special run that they do for one company (GA precision). Bottom line is if you break one Bushnell will offer you something different (not as good) for replacement.

SWFA is great, if the have the replacement in stock. Some models they make have historically had spotty availability with months or sometimes years where they are not in stock. They have been a lot better over the last year or so, but those scopes are very robust and rarely need warranty service.

Maven and ZeroTech by all accounts I've seen are in the same category as Leupold/Athlon/Vortex in terms of warranty. They will take care of you with no hassle.

Great info thank you!

I can attest to this, had a 4.5-18 that needed to be replaced recently. Only option was to pick a scope from Bushnell's current lineup and flip it to get an actual replacement (in my case I bit the bullet and went nx6). That being said I still have a few 3-12 and really like them and don't see a need to replace them until/ if something happens to them as well.

I highly recommend a scope in mils.
I’ve had pretty good luck with my vortex razor hd LHT 4.5-22. The reticle is thick enough to be decently useable on minimum mag and it has illumination if not. I had no issues spotting impacts prone on 12-15x with my 300wsm.
Biggest cons are it only has 6 mil turrets and not a ton of internal adjustment for shooting past 1000.

The glass is certainly better than my Gen 1 SWFA 3-15 SFP

Another vote for Maven. I've got the rs5 SFP on my 7prc. Personally I prefer SFP for hunting. Might cross your budget for ffp maven options, but there's often coupons, not sure where I got my last coupon, but it offered like 25% off, so that rs5 was about $1200.

Why mills might I ask?

Is the 4.5 hard to use if it’s close up?

I saw they have a 4-20-50 as well for 800.00. The only negative is no zero stop:/

You won't regret spending a little more and getting the 'right for your situation scope' and high quality glass. You will regret cutting corners. I haven't personally tested all the scopes and brands but my Leupold vx5, vx6, and maven are all worth the money in SFP options (I prefer SFP for hunting).

My lesser scopes like vortex viper HST, actually track and function very well, but when you're looking into a hillside that is backlit by the sun (East before the sun crests, or west after it's gone behind the hill), the quality of the glass/lens coatings becomes obvious. In this situation I can still readily find critters in my maven and swaro optics and can not hardly find even more obvious targets in the lesser optics. Being that my purposes are to kill game up until the end of shooting hours, I've been very happy with my optics upgrades and wished I never wasted the money on lesser optics other than the fact that I've personally learned my lesson.
