Rifle-scope combo problems

I went shooting with someone who bought a savage .270 and nikon scope combo at bass pro. he shot it for the first time at 50 yard to get it on paper. He was getting great groups...10 inches (20moa) to the right of POA! anyone else have a gun shoot that far off out of the box with a combo scope on it?

If it's not at least bore sighted, that's no surprise. After dialing it in, does it shoot tight groups consistently to point of aim? If so, all is good.

Lucky to be on paper.... Unless you are purchasing a used rifle from someone who says that it is on, I would expect that it needs to be zeroed.

And even then you would still need to zero to your personal load/ammo.

I've seen rifles leave a good gunshop that had been bore sighted that were that far off.

How did it shoot once you dialed it in?

shoots great now. ive never had to click the dial on the scope 80 times in one direction. I just assumed that since it was a combo package, it would have been bore sighted already.

Those combo outfits are hastily assembled to meet a low price point so don't expect any additional efforts to make it perfect.

I trust very few to mount a scope for me as I've seen so many poorly done.......to satisfy me, I would have taken the scope off that rifle and started from scratch with a torque wrench and my proven methods.

Yeah- I picked up one of the Ruger American package guns for my son.... never even fired it before I took the scope and mounts off and re-torqued, re- mounted the works.

If a single screw had been torqued...I'll eat my hat.
