Rifle choice of Alaskan Yukon moose

I live and hunt in AK, and I usually carry my .338 WM with 225 gr TTSX handloads or my 300 WM with 180 gr TTSX handloads. My son killed his first moose in 2024 with his 6.5 PRC using 143 gr ELD-X factory loads.
When I was in the AF, we had a civilian in our unit that shot tons of grizzlies and moose with his .300 WM and 180 gr cod-loc factory loads.

i do not have anymore a 340 wea mag but i used 225 gr tsx best choice ever ... i tried first the ultra core lokt a bonded version but the tsx is the goat for sure and not only in the 338 ...

I like 7mmMag. Always been a big fan of the 7mm’s .280ai 7SS 7 SAUM etc…

The coreloks in the 338 will be just fine if your rifle likes them.

I’m going moose hunting in Alaska this fall with an outfitter and he suggested a 338 WM. His loaner gun is a 338 or 375 RUM that is braked. There are brown bears around and his clients kill plenty of them.

I don’t own a 338 WM but I am leaning towards a stainless fluted Weatherby in 300 Weatherby Magnum shooting 180 grain Barnes TTSX. Also in consideration is a LAW in 300 WM also shooting 180 grain Barnes TTSX and a Ruger Alaskan in 375 Ruger shooting 250 grain TTSX!

A guy in my hunting club hunts all around the world with a wood stocked Remington 700 BDL in 338 WM shooting 250 grain Remington factory Core Lokt’s! He has a video of a costal brown bear walking down the beach towards him. He shoots it at 80 yards between the shoulder and neck (3/4 head on) and the bear’s head dropped, his body rolled over head first and lay dead, never moved a muscle! As my father would say “you can’t argue with success”! That bullet wouldn’t be my choice for coastal brown bears but it worked!
