I’ve been reading shooting forums for a long time and recently, the thread on buying a “budget rifle” or going custom got me to thinking about making a change. Outside of the family/sentimental rifles (mostly don’t use them but won’t get rid of them), I’m thinking real seriously on having a rifle purge. I came to the conclusion that a pair of Tikka T3x Lite's will do me more good than the litany of randoms that I have. If I flip several and get a 223 and a 308, along with my T1x 22, I would have my bases covered for most everything I will ever do with a rifle. Familiarity along with a fun trainer just makes a lot of sense. Set up with better stocks and good optics along with shooting the piss out of them just has more appeal than having half a dozen other random rifles that I bought on a whim to try. Sure, I won’t sale my M70 or Model 7 (too much history and great hunt’s) nor my Howa mini 7.62x39, but I’m seriously looking thinking on tripping the proverbial trigger on most of the others. That would put me feeding 4 cartridges: 22lr, 223, 7.62x39, and 308. I’m pretty deep in all so I have a big start!

Has anyone else had this disease of an idea?

@ChrisinTN made a very valid point that is sticking with me… above a Tikka, building would make more sense but truthfully, until I burn a barrel out, Tikka will be better than most others and all I need!

It just got me thinking on the subject…

I am currently working in roughly that direction for last few years after finding rokslide while researching why my scopes lose zero. My big gun is a 6.5 creed now. I am gaining confidence in numbers that it is all I will need for my North American aspirations. Good luck to you!

Tikka T3x 223 and 243 and T1x in 22lr. The Tikkas are set up nicely and I prefer that over having multiple rifles in the safe.

I have an Encore with a 308 and muzzle loader barrel and a 308 Tikka barrel in a drawer (along with a Tikka action). Also have an AR.

I've thought about selling the Encore, but someday might want a muzzle loader. Nobody wants a 308 Tikka barrel, though it is cut and threaded at 16.5 inches.

Anyway, your idea is solid. Add tools to swap the barrel to your list.

Tikka makes a good rifle. Hard to go wrong with them. They are the easy button IMO.

That said, I'm kinda over them for whatever reason. My m77's seem to be about the only bolt guns that get used anymore.
