Revic tripod for shooting

I had one didn’t like all the controls and is a pretty heavy tripod. I went with this sunwayfoto model.

The head of the sunwayfoto tripod is similar to the rrs anvil head. One difference is the anvil has a pan option and the sunwayfoto just has one lever to unlock the ball head. Here is a little of my comparison.

That is a nice alternative to RRS. How do you like it for shooting? Glassing?

It’s excellent for shooting its slight downside could be glassing because it doesn’t have the pan feature. But you can put slight tension on the ball head so that it isn’t “floppy”. I bought it on adorama and they have a super easy return system and 30 day. I’d buy a couple and try them out.

Good idea.
I talk to RRS and they recommended to use the anvil with a PC LR-40. Wonder if I could do the same

The Revic is just a Leofoto with orange on it for more money. CS might be better going through Revic, so maybe the up charge is worth it??

The Leofoto 364 with anvil 30 has substantially more wobble than my RRS 2-series with anvil 30. The 324 series will have even more wobble than the 364.

I wouldn’t call Leofoto/Revic/Sunwayfoto or other Chinesium options an alternative to RRS.

I get what your saying
As much as I want an RRS I just can’t justify purchasing something I will use once a year to every other year.
Sometimes I wonder if I am better off just sticking to shooting off my pack or finding another alternative

I have the Revic Hunter model and like it. Very stable and I like the controls on the head, being able to pan the head around is pretty functional with a spotter on it.

It is a little heavier than the Sunwayfoto unit that was referenced. I weighted mine all set at 4.2lbs

Yes I didn’t like the ball head on the revic. I kept the sunwayfoto and I like it. But I will say I am primarily shooting off of it not glassing a ton
Thanks. I’m looking for a more economical tripod for mostly shooting. Not intending for backpacking so not concerned about ounces. I just can’t wrap my head around a 1K++ tripod plus more $$$ for a head like a RRS setup. Your suggestion is dollar feasible, but I don’t have Arca rails on my rifles and don’t want them, so I’m looking at the rifle “grips” options. 👍

I have the Spartan setup on another tripod, but they have an adaptor that goes into the Arca rail on the Revic very easily. That adaptor makes it all work pretty well, and I can go from shooting to glassing in a matter a]of seconds.

For me it is a good setup.

Only downside of that setup is the spartan Arca adapter will pan no matter what you do to the head.

With the rifle on that adaptor yes it would pan even if the ball head was secured. But when glassing with the spotter the Spartan adaptor comes off and it is a basic Arca connected spotting scope.

To pan with the spotter the Revic ball head has the tension screw on the base that allows it to pan with the spotter, without loosening the actual ball which for me has made it easier to use for glassing. (Coming from a fluid head on a spotter to a ball, this has helped me a bit). Maybe it’s not for everyone.
