This is great to see. I notice you're significantly over the max loads listed by Vihtavuori, and I've always been suspicious their loads are way on the light side. Any experience with N165? I'd love to see a workup like this with 140 eldm and n165! I'd like to push their max numbers a little, but am new enough to the game that I don't trust myself to recognize pressure signs.

Examine for flattened primer also shiny ejector marks. Stiff bolt lift is an over-max charge for sure. I've burned N565, which is rocket fuel, but no N165. I've burned N560 with 140 gr bullets, reached 3200FPS out of 28" bbl

Thanks for this data! I’m just starting to load with 140gr eldM and I wasn’t sure how much powder I could use. I started at 45gr and it seems so empty! I did load one with 55gr just to see how much it filled the case but I still have plenty of space in there I can hear the powder like a maraca! Seating depth to start is 2.345” I believe which is twenty-thou off my lands. I’m just going to work my way up until I start to see flat primers and then take a step back off that wherever velocities hold well.

Yea, 45 grains is awfully low load density and would be pretty gutless with anything. All of mine are at a 67.9 volume after fired, sized and trimmed and have found best results between 90-100% LD. I would love to hear some results on the N165 as well being that I have 12lbs of the stuff ready to load with 135 A-Tips for my PRC! Chewing through a keg of Retumbo right now for the 140s and the N165 will be my next in line.

Funny you replied right now because I finally got out shooting today. Started with 45gr and it was way under powered. Ended up at 55gr and there was plenty of room to go up. 55gr still leaves a lot of room in the case. Nice to know you are up around 67gr so I’ll probably space out my next loads a little further. It was a nice sunny 65f day and the velocities were pretty spot on so I’m happy with that so far.

That’s 67.9 H2O volume. I’m getting best results anywhere in between 90-100 load density. If my max charge weight is only 53 grains, had the velocity I want, I seat that puppy until I’m at those load density’s and am finding good nodes. If the max charge weight I find to be 58 for a given powder, I just seat the bullet out farther til I get the money load density.
I got to shoot today too and it was a phenomenal day!
