Restoring a down jacket covered in grease?

My wife had a can of Pam cooking spray go off in her pack, hosing down her down jacket. I’ve put it through the wash with regular detergent, then down detergent. It still has this weird stiffness to it, and it doesn’t seem like the down’s loft has come back. It also still smells like Pam…

Any ideas? I’m about to try oxyclean next.

It might be toast. Aerosolized stuff has a weird way of ruining things. I've had sunscreen destroy sunglasses and other plastics.

If you figure it out, let me know. I've got piles of clothes that smell like a wood stove, despite how many times they've been washed and aired out.

I agree with Dawn. I borrowed a buddy's pristine white Kuiu game bag once and couldn't get the blood/grease/fat out of it, despite washing it a couple times. Soaked it in a combination of oxyclean, water and Dawn for a few days and it came out clean as new. Dawn seems to do the trick on anything grease related. Another option would be purple power or citrus based degreaser.

I’ve been trying to remember a solution to this that has actually worked. In the last 40 years, every 2 or 3 years I’ve heard of a down cleaning issue, but unfortunately, I’ve never seen something work well. Usually the jacket gets tossed into the pile to work on cars or shovel horse Schitt with. Your wife’s eyes will brighten up when she unwraps a brand new jacket for Mother’s Day, especially if you go all out on good flowers. :-)
