The past few years I've bought a few of the discontinued 3-10 side parallax shv scopes. I have yet to buy the current illuminated model, although I'm not against it.

Wondering if or when they discontinue all shv scopes, what would be the next best thing?

For a pure hunting scope I fin the shv 3-10 hard to beat. I run it with a 200 yard zero and holdovers to 250/300 or 325 depending on what matches up, pop a cap and dial after that. I'm one of the people who love a capped turret, never have to worry about bumping a turret and they dial.

Same here, that's why I've picked up a few. Looking for the next best thing in case they get discontinued. Always used market I guess, sometimes when things are no longer avalable people hold onto them or are pretty proud of them.

The 2.5-10x40 Huron doesn't look like a terrible option. Just wondering if it would hold up to dialing.

I have a 5x20x56 SHV I'm going to sell and replace it with a Accupoint 3x18 . I have the Accupoint on another rifle and prefer it for hunting , mostly the green dot reticle .
I've hunted with both for a couple years and decided to go to the same scopes on both rifles .

Let's hope they make a 3-12 in both mills and moa. I run both and while I do agree in a range environment I find mills to be faster, once you know your dope I see no difference. Same for FFP, love them for the range but prefer a 2nd focal for hunting. Practice with whatever you chose and have confidence in your system, don't overthink things.

Ever crank on the elevation turret? I don't dial a ton, but fun to mess around with at the range.

I don’t dial as my primary use is for hunting out to about 300 yards. However, I don’t think dialing would be a problem, it has a pull up reset to zero on the turrets. I’ll give it a shot next time at the range.

Would you mind posting a pic of the turret? I've been eyeing one of the hurons up.

I too like the SHV scopes. Both 3-10 SFP and 4-14 FFP.
Rumor is Nightforce has new stuff to present at Shot Show this year.

Otherwise, I think Trijicon has good options. I'm debating a Credo 2.5-15x42 Mil SFP for my next hunting scope.

I have a couple shv's with the duplex reticle and fixed parallax, as well as a huron 2.5-10x40 and a swfa 3-9.

Side by side comparison to my eye the shv barely edges out the huron but I think thats due to the FOV being a bit better.
The huron is great cheaper alternative to the shv.

I zero the shv's at 100yds, dial for mpbr then leave it capped.

The huron is no comparison to shv when taking the caps off and dialing.
It can be done with the huron. SHV turrets are definitely designed with that capability in mind. Huron is more set and forget.

For dialing, the swfa 3-9 is great. I have yet to use it hunting because I like the shv so much for what I do.

I debated long and hard between the SHV and the Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40. In the end I went with the Trijicon. At the time I was making this decision, it was cheaper and lighter. I think it’s a great all around scope that is similar to the SHV in that you can dial but have to pull off the cap. Though not truly apples to apples, it might be another good option to look at.

EDIT- Looks like the Trijicon is still cheaper than the Nightforce. And weighs a 1/2 pound lighter. Might not be as robust but they have held zero for me great (haven’t done the full drop test though).
