Remember Backcountry Hunter or Hunting website in the 90s? It was the first and only website, specifically for backcountry hunting, except for this one that succeeds it.

I'll bet some of you remember, I wouldn't be surprised if the originator of that site is on here?

I remember he shut the site down, because he was doing it all himself and it was overwhelming.

I remember he modified the Dwight Schuh backpack and other gear.

Cheers Bill

I remember that! I didn’t at first until you mentioned the modified Schuh pack. Back then I was excited that someone even considered having a webpage like that. Good times!

I do. I think we are talking about the same guy. He was also big into Dana backpack systems. (Which I think those packs were early projects of Patrick Smith?) I bought a modified Schuh belt system from someone. (Wider than factory)

I still have a modified Ace-1(?) frame. I have hooks down the sides for lacing on quarters for packing meat. It’s actually a pretty poor pack frame, flexes a lot.

Dana was the pack before hunting pack manufactures got a clue. Light nylon packs with internal frame.
Back then the arguments were internal frame vs external frame. LOL!

Dana Designs was Dana Gleason. After he sold out he waited for his non-compete to expire and started Mystery Ranch. Patrick Smith was Mountainsmith. He did the same as Gleason, sold out, waited for the non-compete to expire and started Kifaru. I used several Dana Designs including a Terraplane (Arc-Flex frame) and a Glacier (Arc-Light frame). The Arc-Lights fit me better and were my preferred although they didn't carry heavy loads as well as the Arc-Flex packs like the Terraplane. Some of the top internal packs of the day were Dana, Gregory, Lowe (Lowe started the internal pack revolution).
