Reloading without tumbling

I tumble occasionally, I do like the shiny brass, but no it does nothing except add an extra step.

I do believe the carbon in the neck is a good lube and helps keep seating depth consistent.

It's fine if you're loading and shooting fresh loads, but it will still react to copper and cause weld. Imperial graphite will prevent it. I had 2 batches of loads do it to me last year when I loaded them in probably September and shot some this spring, both were impacting high at distance. Dug into it and learned about weld, tossed a couple loads in the seater and bumped them deeper, every one had a nice audible *crack* to it as the bond broke.

I like my wet tumbling

I use the Frankford vibrating tumbler with corncob media. It super easy and cheap. You can get the tumbler, media, and sorting strainer for $100 and the media has easily lasted me a couple thousand rounds and still going strong. I here that stainless steel media in the wet tumblers can ruin brass and cause problems if tumbled for too long. No problem with vibrating corncob. I throw it in before bed and then turn it off in the morning. Takes 2 minutes to strain when ready to reload.

I reload for my gas guns (AR15/AR10). The brass gets a lot dirtier than a bolt gun, especially if you shoot suppressed. My brass can turn completely black when shooting suppressed. If I did not clean my brass, not only would it dirty my resizing die, but I can also run into a lot of cycling and feeding issues with my gas guns.
