For those of you not tumbling fired brass before reloading what is your process? I have heard a few guys say they dont tumble and that that have not seen any reason to do it as their accuracy has been great.

I'm a rookie , but I wash mine in a soap / vinegar solution for 45 minutes then dry in the oven for a couple hours at 200 degrees . After I decap them .

I use 0000 steel wool and clean them by hand. I don’t load large quantities so it works best for me. I have a tumbler but it never gets used.

I haven’t tumbled for decades. Wet cleaned brass is too clean and same for ultrasonic cleaned brass. A quick swipe with Never Dull on outside of necks to take the carbon off. I don’t clean or brush the inside of the necks and I don’t clean primer pockets.

Very light couple turns of primer pocket uniformer to clean em out.

Tumbling is for the gram. Your dies will clean up quick and easy every other month or so. Far easier than tumbling brass, picking out the pins, drying, etc, and you often still have to clean the primer pockets after all that work.

So I wiped the cases with fine steel wool which shined them back up a bit and removed any residue. Then I hit the primer pockets quick. I ran a nylon brush in the neck then sprayed with one shot and resized. Its a little more work up front from the wet tumbling I have been doing but time wise its much faster. Tomorrow we will see how they shoot.

I hit mine with the Lyman vibratory rig, walnut shell and I’ll dump in some Brasso on occasion. Certainly not every time except for batches of pistol brass from semi autos that end up rolling around in the dirt. Those get cleaned every time. Otherwise just clean the necks up with red scotch brite.

I think a good question thats only answered by another.

How accurate and consistent do you want your process and ammo?

I used to think alot of things maybe were a waste of time until I hung around some competion guys a little and saw how consistent their massive quantity of ammo was they reloaded.

You can tumble to just clean and you can tumble to clean and remove spray lube depending on your process. There is some good info/education/ research can be done with Sam Millards material at Panhandle Precision.

I just deprime, lube cases with hornady one shot, full length size, expander mandrel the necks. Then I vibrate in corn cob for like 30 minutes to get some of the case lube off. Then brush the inside of the necks.

I used to wet tumble and all that. Not anymore, and see no difference in accuracy.
