Picked up a Weathermark last night, now I’ve got to get dies and start reloading. Looking at a 180 Partition or AB. Anything I need to know about loading the Weatherby that might be different than a 300 RUM?
If you’ve got a favorite load, I’d be interested in that also.
Thanks for the help.

My wife shoots a 300 WBY, only played with a few different combo's before we a load it really likes. Her rifle likes Federal 215m primer
200 GR Nosler AB
84 GR of H1000
set at 3.570
Its not a hot load by any means but it shoots lights out. We did learn hers doesn't like Bergers, To much jump I'm guessing?

The Hodgdon manual shows 83 grains is the max load with a velocity of 2884 fps.
I’ve worked over the max before, but not got velocities like that.

Interesting? The Nosler book shows 83 grains in minimum and 87 grains is maximum, thats for H1000 with 200 grain Accubonds. The average speed for her gun with this load 2983 with an SD of 8. Her barrel is 24 inches long fyi. If you have anymore questions feel free to hit me up. Maybe Broz will chime in? That guy knows his stuff!!!

That is win mag territory velocity for a 200 gr bullet. I wouldn’t consider it hot.

IMR 7828 is the powder I start with on the 300wby. 84.5 gets 3040fps with 200gr NP in my 26” for groups under .5 MOA.
I’ve used Retumbo and H1000 as well. The H1000 didn’t have the speed I wanted.
I’d love to see some RL26 data with 200/212/215 pills.

I have a 30 Hart which is basically a 300 Weatherby improved. I loaded 7828 and A Max bullets and it shot sub .5 MOA. I would start with IMR 7828 and some Accubonds and/or Barnes LR TSX fwiw.

You guys ever go longer with col? I'm trying to get a load for my accumark and am having some issues. I loaded 180 accubonds at col of 3.70 with 7828. I used various powder charges and am not impressed with any of my initial loads. Any suggestions?

SAAMI recommends 3.560 as Max OAL for the .300 Weatherby. I used 3.60 because that is the Max OAL for the .375 H & H Magnum, parent case for the Weatherby. I also think that is the Max OAL shown in some of the older Weatherby Data. The longer your OAL, the more you are reducing internal pressures because you are in effect increasing internal case volume. Weatherby cartridges are designed to operate with a certain amount of freebore. They generally do not do well with bullets seated close to the rifling, Suggest you reshoot your loads with a shorter COAL. Nosler recommends 3.550 OAL for the 180 gr. Accubond.

Ill give it a shot, thanks

My pet load for my brothers 1974 Weatherby loves 80 grains of H4831 Federal 215 primer and Nosler 180 BT.

Well, cases are primed, 4831, 1000 & 7828 powders on the bench along with 2 boxes of 180 ABs. Now if it would ever quit RAINING, I’d work up a hunting load. My home range is underwater every other day.

Do I need to break in the barrel on a new Weatherby?

Hope you have a Weathermark. I never worried about breaking in the barrel on any of my Weatherby rifles, and never saw any difference in accuracy. Weatherby fires every gun for accuracy so it is not like it is unfired or test fired only.

It is a Weathermark. I figured as much knowing that is was already fired, but it’s my first Weatherby.

Well, put together a few rounds with Hornady cases, Federal 215, 180 NB and 7828. Got to start somewhere. Leaving for the weekend, our anniversary, the back on Monday. Mow the range and start shootings in the evenings. Went from raining to in the 90s. Getting anxious!

I break down every rifle I buy and remove the action from the stock and really clean it well before I start shooting. I make sure to get off any old grease and fingerprints and ensure that everything has a light coating of quality oil.

For a factory rifle, I clean the barrel after every shot for the first 10 shots and call it a day. For my custom barrels, I go through the entire break in process. I don't know if it makes a difference but I do it.
