Im looking at using a 45/70 sharps for my bison hunt this fall and was kicking around running a copper solid in it. anyone have any experiences with running copper in the 45/70 or have a bullet recommendation?

I've shot about 50 rounds of the Barnes #30630 300 gr TSX. They run pretty long at @ 1.05" and narrow at .457" diameter, so I use a Lyman M die to size the necks. Huge hollowpoint. They have been very accurate in my 1895 with 19" barrel. 42.2 gr IMR 4198 runs about 1950 fps in Starline brass and Fed 210. I doubt they need to be run that fast but recoil isn't bad.

Here’s my 45-70 load for this rifle…Chiappa 1874 Sharps rifle 34” 1:18” barrel

450gr Campro Spitzer bullets

Various brass, CCI BR2 primers
CBTO (ogive) 2.200” (.005” jump)
38.0gr IMR4198
Speed: 2270fps

Caveat…I’m not sure if this is a good choice for hunting. But I thought I would give you some ideas on copper plated bullets in the Sharps rifle.
