I've got a torn labrum in my shoulder that needs arthroscopic surgery (SLAP tear). What sort of recovery time have you had? I've heard everywhere from three months to eight or nine months before I can draw a bow to hunting weight. Any suggestions from those of you who have had this repair?

It was probably closer to nine months than three months for mine before it felt totally normal, but after three or four months I shoot my bow. ++physical therapy

It depends how bad the tear is and if you have any additional issues such as cartilage damage. It took me about four month before I could shoot my bow. By the time bow season opened I could pull 53 pound and I killed a cow elk and a whitetail. two years later I am able to pull 63 pounds but I had a lot of cartilage damage, I will never pull more than 65 pounds.

If you do your rehab and are consistent with your rehab you should be able hunt this bow season

Whatever the surgeon and physical therapist say.
I didn't listen and have been fighting the poor recovery for the last 20 years!
Sucks big time.

^^^^ listen to this guy! Him and I are in the same boat. My shoulders grind like a meat grinder due to abuse and too many dislocated shoulders.

I got a slap repair about four years ago to repair a tear caused from bmx. Recovery was alright, pain only lasted a couple weeks then sore recovery. I highly recommend getting it fixed because one of my worst fears is dislocating in the back country. I've been pulling 60lb regularly for the last 3 year. I could go up, but prefer to keep the shoulder tight. I have full range of motion, and just a few scar tissue flare ups every now and again.

First of all good luck, as others have said listen to your pt and doc. Do not overdue it. I had my surgery last January and was back to work come may, I am a firefighter. The first couple weeks are tough, see if you can get a nerve block with a pain pump for the first three days. That helped a lot in the beginning. I was able to start shooting my bow around August, luckily I shot my bull at 10 yards so I didn't have to worry being out of practice. I still have issues with soreness and range of motion, which is very frustrating...

I had to have 2 full shoulder reconstructions because I didn't listen the first time, I went back into my unit and started unrestricted training once it 'felt' fine, queue multiple (I stopped counting) dislocations more damage......I followed the script the 2nd time and have had a stable, pain free, shoulder ever since.

I had a labrum tear that took 6 months and recently a pec tendon fear that took 3.5 months. I listened to the doctors and rehabbed like a mad man. I took protandim and some cisuss root but that was about it. With th pec tendon I was able to work to 65# in about a month. I started at 25#. Good luck.
