I have decided to purchase a "higher end" inshore fishing rod. I would prefer a travel rod but not a necessity. However I need to be able to travel on a plane with it (checked baggage).

Looking for a 10" pole to fish from the beach. Budget $200-$600.00.

My favorite rods are St Croix. I think for the price they are hard to beat. Just get one of their middle or top tier rods. The cheap ones are made in Mexico and they aren't nearly as nice.

St Croix rods will explode at the worst possible time.

Good surf rods are:
Penn carnage
Black hole
Cts s7 series for bait, baycaster for lures
century
Lamiglass
Carolina cast pro

I have a few dozen St Croix and I've never had one "explode". As a matter of fact I've never had a problem. I fish coastal SC, the Keys, and Venice, LA.

Toadfish makes a travel surf rod.
