While not the most robust shoes, the various Keen Vent series has served me well at work in New Mexico. I hate waterproof shoes and boots just don't like the clammy feeling all the time.

I'd lean away from boots unless you're carrying a lot or expecting rough trails. I have a pair of Altra shoes that are good for my wide, flat feet. No, not in my opinion you're not. Wet feet are wet feet, doesn't matter if the wet comes from water on the outside or you sweat them wet from the inside, they're still wet.
If you're going to be primarily urban, any reason you wouldn't just get a set of good supportive walking/running shoes? They're usually built to keep you a lot cooler than any boots ever are. The comfort for all day on your feet is also hard to ignore if you're not somewhere they're going to get beat up and/or you're going to get weed-seeds in your socks.
I agree with that, although I see it a bit different. I change my clothes between when Im running the chainsaw to cut firewood, versus when I go to church. Plus, many of these places ARE churches. It’s just a cultural expectation of respect around some things, maybe like the Italian version of taking your hat off indoors. I dont think of it as pomp, it’s just the respect Id give any neighbor going into their home if I know they have a different expectation of what respect looks like. But I agree with you on the crowds. I’ve spent a decent amount of time across europe, I’ll take the 6am shift when it’s just the old retired guys at the coffee bars, any day.Hope y'all have a great trip. So many historic sights that would be awesome to see. So many people that I have little desire to do so! Lol.
I enjoy people, but I've never been one for pomp and circumstances type environments. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind getting gussied up when I want or desire to, but doing so to meet the expectations of others merely to be acceptable to folks I don't know has always been a hang up for me. I probably have some work to do in that area, LOL, but it's far lower priority than others at the moment!
Congrats to you and your bride to be and may you have many wonderful and blessed years of marital bless!

I wore my On Cloud running shoes. We walked all over Rome, Florence, and Venice. I loved them.I'm starting to gather things for me and my fiancés honeymoon to Italy in November and the big thing I need right now is decent shoes. My wardrobe mostly consists of cowboy boots, or kenetreks at the moment. I imagine we'll put on a fair amount of miles each day walking cobblestone around places like Rome so Id like something comfortable and supportive. I'm currently leaning toward a mid hiking shoe/ low hiking boot but cant seem to find many options that aren't waterproof. ( I imagine goretex/waterproof wont breathe nearly as well and would be less that ideal?) I've got a bad knee and ankle from an old sports injury so the higher support would be nice also have pancake flat feet.
Does anyone have recommendations for an application like this? About the only decent nonwaterproof ones I've found so far are Salomon forces but no one around here carries them so Id have to order them in. Also am I blowing the waterproof thing out of proportion?
Avoid Bruno Magli shoes, especially the Lorenzo model.
