Rechamber vs rebarrel

I have a Tikka T3x in 243 since they do not make a 6mm Creedmoor. I do not handload. The want for the 6mm Creedmoor is for the 108gr ELDM vs the 95gr 243 ammo.

I have found 3 loads that shoot at or under 1" at 100 yards but the Winchester silver tips 95gr (Nosler Ballistic Tip bullet) comes in just under or just over 1/2" at 100 yards for a 4 shot group!

The current barrel is threaded (pro) and has a 1 in 8 twist (pro).

Why not just re chamber to a 6mm creedmoor?
Please educate me on pros/cons. If it does make sense, how much does it cost and who have you used to rechamber a Tikka barrel?

Yep it’s shorter. The gunsmith can take a thread or two off the barrel, then rechamber, but it adds to the cost. If cost is a factor, you’re better off waiting for factory barrels, or spend the money towards a prefit.

Thank you for clarification. I was assuming (un-educated) that the 6mm was just a blown out 243 (like a 243 AI). I will just look for a prefit barrel then. I thought it would be a quick/cheaper option since the barrel already performs.

If your 243 is already an 8-twist, why not just get some ammo loaded with the 108 eldm and try it? You can buy 250 rounds of it from Unknown Munitions for less than it will cost you for a good prefit.

I had considered that but I do not know a few details (distance from the lands) and so forth. I would hate to spend the $ to find out i have a batch of custom ammo that doesn't shoot well. The load workspace is over $1k. At that point I would just buy a new barrel, have it installed and then have the flexibility to use any factory ammo.

It takes about a .070" setback to clean up safely. I'd take an 8 twist 243 over a creed if I handloaded.....it's paid for and has gas in the tank. The accuracy potential difference is not going to show up in a 9# rifle.
