Disclaimer: I purchased this tripod using my own money but at the pro-deal price. I have friends that work at RRS, communicate with them regularly, saw prototypes of this, and visited their facility. I am not being compensated in any way by RRS or other companies for my notes below.

With this now on the market, I wanted to share some information and thoughts. If you’re looking for factory specs, see the links below. If you’re interested in buying the tripod feet, shoot me a PM.

Application: In general, this tripod will be used to glass and shoot off of. It will be transported via backpack, truck, ATV/SxS, small airplanes, packraft, and boats.
  • I plan to use the full three section Benchmark Inverted for PRS/NRL shooting, and hunts where weight is a lesser consideration and/or higher shooting positions like standing are more likely.
  • I plan to use the two section configuration for hunts where weight is a consideration, higher shooting positions are less likely, but stability for long shots or glassing remains important.
3 to 2 Section Conversion Process: Removing the lower leg sections are straightforward; simply unscrew the tensioner and then remove a small plastic piece. With the bottom of the second leg section exposed and plastic piece removed, insert the three tripod feet into the lower leg sections.

Weight: Now in the two section configuration, my scale indicated 2.56lbs (~40.96 oz) with the Wiser Precision BT-20 ball head. With the RRS Anvil 30, my scale indicated 3.02lbs (~48.32oz). RRS quotes the full three section Benchmark Inverted with Anvil 30 head at 4.51lbs (~72.16oz). I’ll note my scale may read different than their scale.

What’s the height to the top of the anvil with the legs fully extended? Looks somewhere around 48” from your pic but kinda hard to tell. Thanks

0.4 oz / 12 grams. I’d have to weigh the RRS ones.
The concern I have is when the legs are splayed wide and those feet are making minimal contact with rock. Maybe we can get Ross to print some that have more contact surface in that position, which is one I find far more common than soft ground.

The claw foot design seems to be the "go to" design for rocky terrain. Regardless, fair concern so let's do some mountain shooting this weekend and see if there's room for design improvement.

**Disclaimer: all this was on flat terrain so your mileage may vary in uneven terrain**

The lowest it can go. The pistol grip is touching the ground.

Two section legs collapsed, one click out on the apex felt good (not perfect) for a seated position. Extending the legs would have made this position more comfortable.

Two section legs fully extended. I found this suitable for a low standing position. The Aziak Ridgeline doesn't get high enough for me to pull off a low standing. My bigger Two Vets QDT Inverted absolutely does (but that's a big tripod not suitable for backpacking).

During the range session, I managed to break the feet up in the tubes. Onto version 3, or until it's right.
