I'm fairly hard on boots and "typically" get one season out them due to lots of front pointing into the sand and rocks. Last season was no exception. I pretty much destroyed the front toe area on a pair of Asolo Freney XT GV Alpines. The uppers were still in great shape and I really liked the boots. They were my favorite mountain hunting boot I've used...and I've used a lot of them.
I got in touch with Dave Page, the cobbler in Washington and they said to send them in along with a check for $138 to cover repairs and return shipping. I asked if they could put a tougher sole on them and they said "no problem". They do it all the time for the lighter boots with the softer rubber. I was concerned with the front toe rand area as well, because I had eaten through some of it. When I received them yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality workmanship. New, tougher feeling Vibram soles and they put a second rubber armor area in the toe rand area. Turn around time was fast too, which is handy. So if you have a pair of boots you're thinking about tossing because the rubber is shot, I'd definitely recommend a call to these guys.
