Poor girl. Did you take her to the vet? How long did the swelling last? Was she in a lot of pain? Any details would be appreciated as I'm heading to snake country this weekend with my dog and family. Never had a problem but always want to be as prepared as possible just in case....Here's one that was in my pole shed at camp. I picked up that sack of concrete and he was under it. What almost got me when I was handling this one was the 2nd smaller one hidden just behind that bag at the bottom of the pic. We keep a flat nose shovel down there, not for digging but it's a great snake tool.

Here's a picture of my sweet baby girl after she saved my wife from stepping on one. Wife was grilling lunch on the pit out front and the dog jumped up from the porch and ran right behind her, wife heard her yelp and turned around and the snake had slithered right up behind her from across the road.

Yes, we got across the bay within 30 minutes, that pic was the swelling right at 30 minutes. Vet was another 45 minutes away and she stayed overnight. Judging by the baggy loose skin she had the next evening she swelled up unbelievably huge. My buddy saved her life, I called him after leaving the vet and he asked me if I took off her collar and I hadn't so I called the vet and they hadn't taken it off either but agreed to remove it. He said the only dogs he's seen die were from strangulation because they swelled up so much their collar killed them. Always be sure to remove the collar whether you take them to the vet or not. She looked better the following evening and took a while for the baggy skin to go away.Poor girl. Did you take her to the vet? How long did the swelling last? Was she in a lot of pain? I really don't know why I opened this thread.... I hate snakes!
I hate snakes as well, yet here I am reading every post and following it. I live in prime rattlesnake country too, haven't seen one yet but I'm also like a previous comment where if I'm not looking for them, they aren't there. I'm sure I've passed right by some walking in the woods and not known they were there, which is completely fine with me.Same and my dumbass is following it. Looked at it before bed last night had a dream with snakes in it.
