Anyone ever patch rain gear? I haven't searched the google yet to see what type of patches may exist, just thought i would check here and see if anyone has done it and what you used.

I have the core4element torrent set, it held up well for me considering how bad i beat through the brush with it, but it finally happened. I have about an eraser size tear just above the knee. For how often I actually use it, I really don't feel like buying a new set of pants. Anyone have any patch recommendations?

I was just going to leave it, but I was in a torrential downpour during turkey season and definitely noticed more water than I thought I would coming through that hole.

Thanks

This is going to sound like a hack job but duct tape works great. I have used it on ski gear gear that has been ripped up bushwacking in the backcountry. Just tape it from the inside and it is good to go. It doesnt breath but for most patch jobs its not an issue. Also if you take a little time in taping it from the inside you can barely tell when looking at it from the outside. Dont try to remove it after the fact though because it will pull the liner away after settling in.

Cut a circle of the gear aid tenacious tape and call it a day. Tenacious tape rocks.
The hunt.kuiu.com blog has a post on this very subject, guy that runs it did a video on some raingear.

+1 on Tenacious tape. I carry it on every trip now. Not only for rain gear but to repair a tent and other stuff. I still carry some duct tape as well but Tenacious Tape would get the call for rain gear.

Nylon repair tape (usually Kenyon brand but there are others). Cut it with the edges/corners rounded so it doesn't peel up.

Can put a little Aqua seal on the back side or around the edge for added insurance.

I patch small holes with aquaseal alone and it works grea

I patched a big rip in the crotch of my Kuiu rain pants with a patch designed for breathable waders. It worked like a champ and has stayed put.

I've had trouble using tenacious tape on the exterior of rain gear. It eventually cracked and peeled off. What worked great for me is using tenacious tape on the interior and aqua seal on the exterior. Good luck

The best repairs....permanent repairs...for me are made with AquaSeal only. As long as there is fabric remaining (like a flap or something at the tear) I match the edges and then apply AquaSeal over the damaged area. Use care and smooth it out nicely. Do the outside first and let it cure, then the inside. No patch is required and the repair is very strong. AquaSeal won't peel or come loose from rain gear or soft shell fabrics. I've done significant repairs with it and nothing is better. I carry some Tenacious Tape but it only gets used if need an instant repair or quick strength. I've never had it hold up over the long haul.
