Quitting Alcohol

This thread fell back to page 9 so wanted to dust it off!

Summer is around the corner and it's typically one of the harder times of year for me to stay sober. Have lots of camp and float trips planned.

I'm not a fan of NA beers and hate drinking too much pop (even though I do on occasion).

I allow myself to have a ginger beer at night when pulling off the river or at the campfire, but they're so sugary I only have one.

What are some other options besides NA Beer, pop, energy drinks, or ginger beer that others drink? Would love to hear some alternatives.

It's funny, I haven't had an alcoholic drink since 2022 and I still feel the need to have something in my hand at night when hanging with others. Something I don't think will ever go away.

Hope everyone is achieving their goals and being their best selves....

If you like pop but don’t want the sugar, Liquid Death soda flavors have become my guilty pleasure, particularly Mountain Don’t, Severed Lime, and Doctor Death. 2g sugar for the small can, 4g for the tall boy, and mostly just water in them, so it helps with hydration and feeling good from being hydrated.

Just went through it a couple months ago. Managed to eclipse 11yrs sobriety in the process. Just working 24/7 as hard as I can trying to grow my business as much as possible. Some awesome things happening. Can’t wait to be in the mountains chasing big velvet mulies and bugling bulls.

I’ve always been the weekend drinker. Only drank occasionally when I was with the wrong women. But I’d like to share my experience with retatrutide, besides the weight loss I’ve had no motivation to drink any alcohol at all, or even go out with friends. Yes, some negative side effects come with this but this has definitely helped my urge to quit drinking.

Be coming up on 3 yrs in less than a week. LaCroix lemoncello is my fave. Haven't tried any NAs and probably never will, too risky and I dont need the calories.

Have been through all kinds of stressful stuff that would have had me vaporizing beers and liquor in the last 3 years but I guess I'm stubborn enough to have gotten through it with LaCroix.

I’ve been sober 10 years now. The other day after I had a long day in the tractor planting, I had a terrible craving for beer. I called my wife and asked her to pick up some NA’s for me on her way home. She dropped them off for me in the tractor. In the next 2 hours before I got done and went home I drank 6. A great reminder that I’m still an alcoholic. I knew there was nothing in them but I was still pounding them like old times chasing a buzz.
Thanks for sharing. This is me in a nutshell. If I were to have one, it would be what's wrong with 2, 4, just the weekend, I'll quit again next month, etc....

Theres no room for error for me and just thinking how I can pound a can of almost anything so quickly reminds me to not start back up.

It's a vicious cycle. It gets easier and realizing all the bad things that went with drinking. Find hobbies.

Like anything in life, what you put in your ears and the people around you will have the biggest influences into the decisions you hold yourself accountable for.

Been sober 16 years, it’s just a decision, I still want a beer, that will never go away.
It saves money for guns and cool toys.
My child doesn’t ever have to see lose control.

I spend $100-150 a week on booze and tobacco. That's not going out for drinks. Those weeks, I can easily add $100 for each outing.
If I'd saved $ for other bad habits, I might be dead by now.
My liver has began to scream its time to stop.

Maybe you could do a Topo-Chico sparkling mineral water? They sell em in different flavors, and they're only like 5 calories.
