Quick bowlan.

I can tie it and even used to be able to do it one handed. It's a great knot when you need self recovery and don't like the rope to crush you.

All that said I've never needed to tie one and like Randy have replaced it with cuse words and multiple granny knots

There are multiple ways to tie a bowline.

This is one of my favorite View attachment 962908

There are methods to tie it one handed and under tension as well.
This basically what I do. Except I don’t do an overhand. I just make the small loop in non tag end where I want it then send tag end thru and back thru as shown. Semantics I suppose.

But I agree if I need a knot and I’m going to untie it this is all I generally use for hunting or boating

Knot= bowline
Bend=sheet bent
Hitch=clove hitch

Knowing those three; and what a knot, bend, and hitch are used for would help a lot of people avoid profanity.

There are lots of other useful knots, but other than a square knot and taut line hitch, those are my most used.

That method for a bowlan is a great method to get familiar with for tying off around your torso. Only downside is it requires two hands. I use a length of accessory cord to practice knots while doing the high seat bike at the gym.

Knowing all 3 well, I’m curious what my vocabulary would look like if I didn’t 🤣

On a side note, anyone who watches me tie a horse knows that I work on the ocean, I tie a variant of the clove hitch, I just use it so much that it’s hard to use anything else for that purpose, but I might be the only one
